All us guys waiting and this guy buys one just to make a couple of bucks...grrrrrrr

Ah, whatever. And I doubt he'll clear much profit if any at all.

During the heydey of Harley Davidson's popularity and bull run market, buyers went to the dealership and put down a deposit on a bike, sight unseen, that would be built and delivered 6 months later [sound familiar?]

The difference is those lifestyle purchasers paid full pony or got the hell out of the waiter line. We, all along, had the freedom to negotiate substantial discounts off MSRP, which is a long-winded way of saying that we're more sophisticated. Just for fun, track this auction, and DON'T expect to see some fool pay, say, $3K over list.

Back to Harley. Of course there were some who simply could not wait or risk not getting the color they wanted so they turned to on-line auction sites where entreprenuer types went for the kill trying to sell off a bike that they bought simply to "flip".

All this just to buy a motorcycle.

It may have 0 miles, But it is STILL a Used bike for financing and insurance purposes as it had to be titled at the dealer.

Don't be so sure he won't clear any profit. As hard as these are to get those without a PDP, someone will pony up. Either that or go buy an ST on the showroom floor. For all you waiters, someone might have this before you get your with no anxiety. :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh: :bleh:

How can there be no miles on the bike? I thought that after a bike was put together the mech. had to test ride it to ensure it is safe. Is that the case?

Many of us have driven off the lot with zero miles. Take your money, pat'cha on your back and off you go. It's the American Way!

Wow, I have only owned two bikes in my life and both had about 3 to 8 miles on them when I bought them new. The dealships said that after they were assembled a "tester" would take the bike out for a quick spin to ensure all was well. I am just amazed that that is not done everywhere to preclude a possible lawsuit for not putting it together correctly.

If the seller does indeed make a buck or 2 on this it will be more because of the E-bay auction-addicted gotta have it mentality. E-Bay buyers have been known to do amazing things.

From what I've seen personally and read here and other places, bikes can be had without having to go through the PDP program. You just gotta do some legwork. Dealerships commonly order extras in their employees' names. Long after the '05 shipments had ended people were reporting here "saw 2 '05s at such and such".

my bike had 0 miles on it. Might have had some 10ths, but not enough to trigger the main odo.

Yes I know. I have an '03, July 21,2002. Us old timers are well aware of how things have progressed over the last four years. first PDP, March 1, 2002. Mike

You OBVIOUSLY haven't read the posts about the clunking, whistling, 17mpg FJRs with mirrors and saddlebag locks that fall off after delivery. Oh, and did I mention saltwater taffy keys?

As for the question of buying a used '06, what's to say this eBay seller isn't a dealer?
