After watching the wife complete the motorcycle safety course, which she did did better than some guys that were there.....

I'm thinking of getting her a Yamaha Majesty 400cc scooter. I think it will be easier for her and I believe the scooter has better pick up and top speed than the DZ250 or Rebel 250, I was thinking of getting her.

She is onboard with this option mainly because she feels a little shaky with the shifting part.

Any pros and cons to this thought, I found some left over 05's a local stealer, I can get otd for about $5600.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Once she is real comfortable on that she could move to a bike... or a bigger scooter.

Jeff I borrowed a Majesty from my dealer for a couple hours when they were servicing my FJR and I thought it was a great machine. I don't think it would be intimidating but still has enough hp. I had it out on the highway cruising at 100km/60mph without effort. And I hope that my 260 pounds is significantly more than your wife is packing! :)

My wife is also trying to decide on her first bike and I suggested looking at the scooters but she thinks that isn't a "real" motorcycle and won't hear of it. Personally I think putting her first 10K kilometers on a Majesty would be a good idea. But what do I know?!

I have a Burgman 650 I take the kids and wife on. It has a lot more power than the 400's and is a real quality machine worth $1,500 more IIMHO. The new one offers ABS, which is even better. If she outgrows it, she can sell it for close to purchase price. Thumbs up (bought 1/04 - no probs).
