wondering if anyone has come up with a way to deal with boots damaging the saddlebags.

I already have one scrape from a buddy and figure its just a matter of time before theres more. Apparently its a common problem becasue when I was shopping both the Kaw and the Yamaha dealer didn't have bags on in the showroom and they both said it was because the bags tend to get scratched by people mounting/dismounting

ps. is there a simple repair for scuffs and scratches?

There are full bras made for the bags & clear film for the bags. Some folks have resorted to spraying the entire bag w/ truckbed liner spray. I don't think that there is an easy fix for fixing the paint other than getting a touchup pen or something like that.

Something of interest... if the scuffs are made by rubber soles & not INTO the paint, often the scuff will rub right off.

Good luck w/ whatever you do, Heidi

I had GIVI side bags on my Connie. From time to time they would get scuffed from my boots but a little wax buffed the scuff marks right out. I ride solo so it not hard for me to take a little extra time to avoid the bags but with passengers its a little harder.

Yah I've noticed this on my bike. Usually they just buff right out. Scuffs, by nature, are low angle, low impact glances. Well, unless you ride your bike with spurs! I had a VFR with factory bags and the bike was red - and my boots black. So they looked pretty bad. But with my '08 which is black and black boots - I don't notice them as much.

I cut out pieces of the 3M film and put them on the tops of the bags where they are likely to get boot scuffs. When the film gets too scuffed it can be replaced.

I have to stand on the left peg with the kickstand or centerstand down, then swing my leg over.

Otherwise I'll scuff the saddle bag or trunk every time!

Go to colorrite.com for touch-up paint. Then, either get some scuff pads, or quit kicking the luggage when dismounting.

Well I had the same thing happen.. my fix....Tankslapper paint protection...then bag covers on top...I love it!!!!

I noticed the same problem immediately after buying my FJR. I waxed the bags and have kept that going. All the marks have wiped right off. I also noticed that I am doing it less and less as I have gotten used to the bike.

Tankslapper plastic film kit has been on my FJR for +two years and it has saved it from scrapes by both me and the wife.

+1 on tankslapper. The first time I ever mounted the bike i scuffed a bag. The TankSlapper is the perfect solution, you can't even see its there. I no londer kick the bags myself getting on but every numb nut that just has to sit on her does and my Tankslappers have worked perfectly.

Another solution...buy a Bed Liner Spray can and some masking tape from your local auto-parts-in-a-box store. Get in touch with your artistic side and....voila'!

I don't "have to" but this is the way I always mount the bike...must be a holdover from my equestrian days..............

Yah know I've started trying to do this too. It definantly helps. I just feel a bit weired doing it on the kick stand... like I'd end up bending it or something.
