JUST PURCHASED AN 09 FJR1300. WONT BE ABLE TO PICK UP UNTIL MONDAY BUT WAS JUST WONDERING ABOUT THE SEAT. HOW GOOD IS IT? IS IT GOOD FOR A LONG DAYS RIDE?

If you do a little research you will find many people purchase after market seats. I had the Spenser Mod done on mine which is about the cheapest option. It has been sufficient for me but many do not find it to be satisfactory. Russell seems to be the most popular option from what I have read. It is a little pricey and to too good if you like to hang off the sides in the twisties. Personally I am not that aggressive a rider.

Seats are very subjective as to what suits the rider. I would recommend riding the stock seat for a while and see how it works for you. Then do your research and decide what you want to do based on your needs and the depth of your billfold. Good luck and you will enjoy the FJR no matter what seat you choose. Enjoy the forum. By the way, where are you located?

That depends on YOU. IF you have issues with the OEM seat you can improve it by using some fleece thrown over your saddle. Some owners use beads, others use gel pads or Air Hawk pads.

Some of us who are of "normal size" (I'm 6'2", 250 lbs) are not thrilled with the OEM seat. Others of lesser physical dimensions have no problems. I have a Russell Daylong as I would suffer "butt burn" on the OEM seat after 200 miles.

Try using the Google search method: "your question" space site:fjrforum.com

I've done a 300 mile day and was happy with the stock seat. I also ride 70 miles round trip to work every day. Nobody is really going to be able to tell you how you'll like it though. I'm 5'11",230 lbs. I haven't made any ergo mods to my FJR.

Mike

I rode the shit out of my bike on the way to WFO and back, and although it could have been more comfortable, it was acceptable. On Tuesday, I spend 17 hours on the ride home, most of that physically on the bike. Scooter has a custom seat and seemed to need to stand up or move around just as much as I did. About 2 weeks ago I moved the seat from the lower postion to the higher one to accomidate my knee. I think it was the best change I could have made. I can still get my feet to the ground just fine, but the bend and sitting position are much more comfortable. I'm only 5'9" so unless your shorter than that or just have a funny inseam, you shouldn't have an issue with the higher position. I say ride it for a while and see what you think. Try higher and lower seat positions.

I found I could survive the day, but not be that happy. I found a custom seat (i.e. Mike Mayer, Russell, Rick Mayer in that order) to be the far better answer.

Not true. He's talking about the stock seat....it's part of the FJR and in the correct area.

The most common miscategorization is people putting things not on or attached to stock FJR incorrectly in this area.

If anything, I'd ask him to quit TYPING IN CAPS AND SHOUTING! ;)

then why move my thread about "Stock" cable question?

just ride the darn bike for awhile before deciding. it is plenty comfy unless you have a BIG butt. Enjoy and drive it like you stole it!

The stock seat on the FJR is the best stock seat I've had .... However , it was still only good for a 100 - 150 miles for me...

I'm 5' 10" & 230 ,,, I went with the Corbin , because I've had the Corbin in the past and have been happy with them..

Haven't tried the Meyer's or Russell's ,,, others on the forum seem to have really good feedback on them....

EVERY CORBIN SEAT IVE EVER SEEN WAS HARDER THAN A ROCK. DONT KNOW HOW THEY COULD BE COMFERTABLE THERE VARY POPULAR TO THEY MUST WORK ?????

Sometimes hard is not always bad. My Bill Mayer is almost hard as a rock too but it offers all day long support.

The stock seat is fine as long as you don't take long rides with underwear that have seams in them. Wear boxers, go comando, or the padded shorts dirt bike riders use. I've riden 11 hrs. straight using boxers and the only discomfort I had was in my knees. Before droping big bucks on a different seat that may not help, work with the seat that came with the bike.

+1 on the Spencer Seat Mod. Linky Make sure you get the Supracore gel added (+$25). He puts it under the foam where it belongs. With shipping both ways, it cost me a whopping $100. It's a nice upgrade on the "fairly decent, but could use some improvement" stock seat. Turnaround time is quick as well.
