What do you guys think about a HD Street Glide as a second bike?

Went into the HD shop the other day an looked at the street glide, big ugly, and slow.

Comfortable, the wife might like it, she been complaning I drive too fast (can you belive it) the season didn`t even begin and she wants me to slow down.

Just a thought, but might pull the trigger anyway, before the kids start college, and then there is no money.

What do you think?

B) I have been thinking about the Honda Goldwing. Wife likes it and it looks like its the Cadillac of the cruisers.

My 2 cents worth.

Thanks, Dan.

Have you owned a Harley before this? Just a word to the wise....the big cruiser line FLH is the way to go for stability and two up riding as opposed to the softtails however if you get your ya-ya's with acceleration or bottom end torque you will be spending more than you can afford on H.P. enhancement . I own a 04' Road King Custom and love the handling, eye appeal, commaderie, etc. but immediately added a 95" kit; then the following year added the 103" stroker kit with the hottest heads, cams, roller rockers, race tuner, etc. that Screaming Eagle makes and $7000. later am finally happy with the performance. To be perfectly honest with you and knowing what I now know, I would buy the Honda VTX 1800 and have the same H.P. that I ended up with, and on a chrome package that is ready to go, for half of what is invested in my King. Yes the Harley does hold its value better than any other scooter on the road, but really $30,000 or $15,000 , you decide. I assume you currently own a Feeger and this is why I felt it necessary to lay it out for you, as you will find a stock Harley a true hog, and soon thereafter a money pit. Don't get me wrong, I love my big cruiser now that it runs like a ***** ape...nothing like an 800 pound bike that wheelies and absolutely nothing sounds like a stroker with a radical cam and free breathing pipes!!! Good Luck. B)

If you are looking for something to keep her more comfortable you owe it to her to let her sit on a "Wing-a-bago" or the BMW KLT, though they are expensive, good used bikes abound. IMO, better brakes and suspension than the H.D. models mentioned (and no comment about available power for a bike loaded for a trip).

If you are looking for something larger and more comfy for the missus, I would recommend the wing. I have an older wing now and the wife would prefer it over the new feejer for long distance. And, the newer wings make my GL1200 look and behave like a dinosaur. A wing is expensive, but still a relative deal vs. a harley. You can find excellent late model used ones with low miles and farkled to the hilt. I have never owned the K1200LT, but have ridden one. Very nice also. Only downsides are a little less power and dealer network. You can go anywhere with a wing and be only a stones-throw away from dealer support. But, with my experience with my old wing - never needed it. I would'nt hesitate to jump on the old wing and head out cross-country now. Dependable, dependable, dependable. For a large touring machine, the wing is king, in my opinion. And from what I have seen in my part of the country, a wing will rival the harley in resale value also. I still love the feejer, but for completely different reasons. I will own more goldwings before my life is through.

:detect: Stu64 also has the right idea, the new 109" Suzuki Boulevard is absolutely gorgeous--possibly the best looking offering for 06'...
Doesn't look like much of a two upper though...

Harley is more of a bike because you just have to have a Harley. They have a feel like no other and are what they are.

But, if you want a specific purpose bike such as two up riding their are better bikes. Even the Electra Glide is no comparison to a Wing. The Electra Glide is way under powered stock and doesn't have what a Wing does for extras.

I can't speak for the BMW's but that might even be a better specific purpose bike than a Harley if you aren't set on just buying a Harley...

My 2 cents...

er... has anyone else considered how much money could be saved if you just watch that right wrist while she's on the back of the Feejer?

As the owner of a Roadstar I'll throw my two cents in - I like the RoadGlide over the Street glide because it appears to offer more touring protection and comfort for two-up riding. If you are talking about 3 and 4,000 mile trips two-up then the Wing is definitely the premier long-distance tourer - the longevity of that motor is in a class by itself. If you are talking about just long weekends then there are a lot to consider. One of my favorites is the Venture - not the performance of the Wing but a lot more than any HD stock plus all the ergonomics and bells and whistles. Plus the look of the Venture is the classic VTwin look (from each side LOL). It's a heavy beast but it rides like a dream plus ans good performance on the twisties - not the Wing but better than an Ultra IMO.

If you are going to be doing shorter trips around town and an occasional overnighter than take a look at the Liner series - it's a fantastic bike but since I'm not into the retro look it wouldn't be my choise but that's personal taste. And don't forget the Roadie - I absolutely love mine - it's been around awhile now and there are so many directions you can take it as far as setting it up as a bar-hopper to a full-blown dresser style. Great torque and you can get some decent HP gains with minimal $$ investment.

I say ride them all with your other half and get what ya'll want. So many bikes so little time!
