I noticed that Sena has come out with a new Bluetooth interface device that they call the SR10 2-way Adapter. Is this the device that we have been waiting for?

It appears to be a mini Bluetooth gateway that has two 3.5mm audio input jacks and a dedicated mini-din jack for use with your choice of B2B 2-way radio. It will also pair to certain other audio input devices (phones, GPSes, etc) and your existing (or new) Bluetooth helmet headset.

It would appear that this provides a solution to (at least) two of the problems with using Bluetooth helmet headsets: A means to use FRS/GMRS or CB Radios for B2B, and also a means to integrate the audio warning sounds from an RD into the headset.

I've read through the full web site and also downloaded the user manual, and suggest anyone with an interest in it do the same. I have a pretty good idea on how this might be useful, but still have some functionality questions.

The way I would envision using this would be to first pair my cell phone to my Zumo GPS as usual, then pair the Zumo to the SR10 for just the phone audio interface (selectable) and also use a cable to connect the GPS to the SH10 via one of the two audio connectors for the stereo MP3 Music and GPS prompts (the SH10 doesn't appear to support A2DP) then use the other audio jack to hook up the RD. Of course the mini-DIN would connect the B2B GMRS radio. All of that seems relatively straight forward.

My question is, how does this provide (or work as) an intercom for the passenger?

I suppose you could pair between the two helmet headsets directly for the intercom feature, but then any time you are in intercom mode (which you would probably want to be almost full time) you would not hear any of the other audio from the BT connection with the SH10, right? What am I missing here? Anyone have any first hand experience?

No firsthand experience with this (yet) but I believe you're correct. But you're only in intercom mode when you're actually talking, so your other sound inputs would still function fine.

One thing you're not seeing is that the SR10 DOES NOT support stereo audio mode, so no hooking up an iPod or XM radio to it so send sound via BT to the headset.

I'm thinking of picking up one of these to use with a new Schuberth C3 with a Sena headset. I don't use GPS voice prompts (I just watch my 478 screen) but I need a way to get the V-1 sounds into the BT headset. I use an old-skool non-smartphone so it will pair with the headset and I'll have to get a BT stereo transmitter to handle my iPod and XM inputs.

FYI, Premier Cycle currently has all Sena gear at 15% off... www.pca-one.com/

Same here no first hand knowledge but as LDrydr says.... 15% off made me buy.

I just picked up the dual Sena with the new SR10. Don't have it in my hands so time will tell if I made the correct choice to change.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but to put the headset into intercom mode requires pressing the jog dial. Once you are intercom mode with headset A you can't hear headset B or C or any other BT devices that you are concurrently paired to, right? I don't have any of these BT headsets yet, so don't know how they mix or time share signals.

Aha! You are right. I missed that. So the BT connection between the SR10 and the BT Headset would be monaural only.

Kind of kills the buzz on that then.

I have all the pieces in hand and plan to do some configuration and testing this week. I normally play MP3 music from the Zumo 660/Starcom and it's yet to be determined exactly where my music will need to reside.

The SR10 was purchased in hopes of turning it into a wireless Starcom equivalent, but that may prove impossible. Time will tell.

One other option I came up with for stereo music (I have just one SMH-10, don't have another to do the intercom yet) was to use a 3rd Gen iPod Touch (only has A2DP, not HFP profile), paired directly to the SMH-10, and then use the SR10 to pair my Yaesu ham radio, Montana GPS and possibly also my iPhone (hardwired or BT). This would keep the remote control capabilities of the headset with the iPod, then still pass all the other audio sources I need.

Can you actually pair more than 1 device to the SMH10? I'm hoping to be able to pair the iPhone (music, navigation, phone) to the headset, then the SR10 with wired stuff (radar, radio, etc...) to headset. Is that possible?

Yes.

With my old GPS and cell phone I would pair both of them to the SMH10, they just have to be different profiles(one A2DP and one Mono). I am also looking at getting one of these SR10's just for the radar detector. My plan is to pair iPhone 4 to Zumo 665 to the SMH10, then also pair the SR10 to the SMH10 for the radar detector. I talked with Sena and they said this should work no problem as the Zumo will take up the A2DP profile and the SR10 the mono profile. A local retailer in Colorado has them in and said I can bring my junk down and pair it all up to make sure it does what I want before I buy it.

The reason I called Sena is that I wanted to know "how" it would all work. I asked them what the results would be if I was listening to XM or talking on the phone when the radar hit. He said the radar beeps would just "overlay" the music. If this is true, it will be fantastic, but if it mutes the music then opens the connection for the radar detector then I am skeptical that it will be effective, as I don't want any delay from the radar detector.

Right now I just put in a Y-Cable on the ear bud mount for the Sena. I plug the ear buds into one end and a cord from the RD to the other. It works great but I would like to get rid of the cord.

Good to know...I don't think you can pair an iPhone with the SMH10 at the same time as the SR10. The iPhone has both A2DP and HFP (my headset beeps twice, once for each profile), and I haven't found a way to turn off either profile. It might be possible to do if you power up the SMH/SR10 first (and let it connect), and then power up (or turn on Bluetooth) on the iPhone. I don't have an SR10 (yet), so I have no idea if this actually works, though it should in theory.

Here's how I think you could do it:

Power on SR10 and pair it with iPhone first. This will just be via HFP (because the SR10 doesn't do A2DP).

Next turn on the SMH10 headset and let it pair A2DP with the iPhone (for the music) and HSP (HeadSet Profile) with the SR10.

Plug in any other stuff to the SR10 using cables (RD, GPS, B2B).

From what I read, the A2DP is the lowest priority profile. Any time there is anything coming from the SR10 via HFP it will over-ride the music. All inputs to the SR10 will be mixed, so if you are getting directions from the GPS and your radar detector goes off while you are also talking on the B2B you are going to hear all three of those signals mixed, but not the music over the A2DP. This actually sounds like the way you would want it to function.

Not actually owning any of these I can't say for sure that it will work this way

I believe with the new version of the SMH-10, with the usb port and the related firmware, you can pair the HFP and A2DP profiles separately from the Sena headset itself. I haven't tested this personally, but in theory, you can setup the Sena to only offer to pair in A2DP, you could do that to the iPhone, then do HFP for the SR10.
