Still being fairly new to the motorcycling world, I have never replaced a worn tire. I have only replace a cut tire on my previous bike.

Is this the beginning of the cords comming through? Is there safe life left in these for one more ride next week? ( I don't know if I can get new skin by then)

I dunno. I'll let you know as soon as I find my eyeglasses.

Those are Metzelers, right? **** can 'em now before they kill you.

I'd worry less about the tire and more that if the road looks this out of focus to you......then I'd swap both tires with four in a big thing that has "Taxi" or "Transit" painted on the side.

Of the one that is less out-of-focus I think I can make out where you just barely have cords starting to show....which would generally be undesirable. It looks like two kind of different layers of rubber with little mini cuts. Having been there once myself three states away from home I took the risk and was generally told by the LD illuminati around me that the tire wouldn't go boom. It would just lose air in the middle of nowhere and not be fixable.

If the tire looks like it checking/small cuts in the center the cords are not far off. Replace NOW, or you will be sorry. I don't like to tip-toe home because I should of slipped a new set of shoes on... Plus new rubber gives a warm fuzzy feeling inside.... :) Good luck, Smitty

Do a 60 sec burnout and if the tires don't blow ya could have gone a little farther ;) :p

happy T day !

Iggy, you're cracking me up here! Just sitting here laughing at my computer.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Mine looks the same way as yours. I am riding it to the dealer tomorrow to get some Pilot Roads put on but thats as far as I will go. When I discovered this last week I would not ride it anymore.

the pictured tires look like my Metzlers but with just over 6k miles I dont have the wear you are showing. How many miles are on yours and how hard are you on the tires? And what is wrong with Metzlers? :(

I got 6300 on them. The stock Metz Z6. And I guess from your statement I am a little harder on the tires than you.

The front still has some life but is cupping.

I put the camera on Macro but guess I still got to close. Just trying to show as best as I can

Iggy

I don't need to read "Taxi" (cause I can't) I just look for the yellow blur and try to avoid it :D

Kevin,

Give 29 Dreams Shop a call. They usually have tires in stock and may be able to get you in if they are open over the weekend. Holiday and all, i don't know. That tire needs to be swapped.

I'll being leading a session on photo optics, focal lengths and depth of field at WFO-6. Register now for good seats.

If you have to ask if your tire is too worn to ride, it usually is! :) For your next set, get something that has tread all the way across the rear tire, and watch the wear bars when you get down on tread. Replace them when you GET TO the wear bars. They are not there to tell you it's ok to ride for another 1k miles. That last bit of rubber goes fast.

For intertainment puposes, and educational ones perhaps, take an awl or similar tool with you to the dealer when you go for the new tires. Along with this, bring your patch kit and pump. Then in the parking lot, puncture the rear tire with your awl, (or a nail, etc.). You'll be surprised how easy it is to puncture the tire. Then practice a flat repair right there and re-inflation. Better to discover your kit doesn't work, or works well, in the parking lot of the dealer instead of on the road in the middle of nowhere while it's raining.

I will be the test dummie on the new Avon Storms. I put in my order today but the Skin will not be avail until Nov 30. I really thought about the Mich C2 but maybe next time.

I have an aquantence with a no-mar setup. I wonder if he will let me burn out his driveway?

Hey Mike, You gonna help me put on the New Penski?

I'm not sure if anyone answered your original question. There is nothing wrong with this tire other than it is completely worn out. Yes, that IS the beginning of the cords starting to show. A lot of guys press on for "another ride", but your risk of tire failure is rising expotentially.

I'll be glad to help you! It will give me a good opportunity to learn before I put one on mine! Why don't you get the Traxxion AK-20 cartridges too and we'll try that! Hell, I'll take a vacation day to experiment on someone elses bike! Seriously; I'm in. Let's set a time. :yahoo:

Does it get any better than the blind leading the blind? :p

I was wondering what the diff would be in the Traxxion Ak setup and the Group Buy GP suspension setup besides the $4-500 diff in price?

I think that is a new topic. Time to post
