I went all over my manual and I do not see any place where it says that it is copyrighted. This manual came from the dealer still seal in plastic.

Under current US law, "Copyright is secured automatically when the work is created"

https://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html#hsc

and "notice [is] optional for all works published on and after March 1, 1989."

https://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html#omiss

So the lack of a copyright notice on a work does NOT mean it's OK to copy it. However, the copyright owner's remedies are somewhat limited if there's no notice and the copyright isn't registered.

My guess is that Yamaha doesn't care much. They have to produce a service manual, and $60 covers their fully burdened cost (and allows the dealer to make a couple of bucks) but I doubt they consider the sale of such a manual a profit-center.

Bought a non-copied service manual from University Motors two weeks ago, and received an excellent discount after mentioning FJRforum. And I sleep good at night......
