Very very nice.

Looks like I have some work during my next tire change.

That is some impressive documenting skills.

Thanks, Bounce. Been puttin this off, been too skeered to do it. Not enough info until now. Wonder what ill effects I'll find at the 30K-mile mark... Will find out in Septemberish when I have time to do this service. Thanks again.

Ditto what everyone else has said Bounce. Great website. Thanks for sharing the information! B)

Sorry if I've misssed it, Bounce, but what liquid did you use to remove the old grease from the bearings etc?

Cheers

I won't make a specific recommendation. Choose your poison. What I used for cleanup was WD-40 and a soft bristle tooth brush. I don't warranty or assure that product for any fitness for use. I then repacked everything except for splines with Mobile 1 full synth bearing grease. For the splines I used Honda's most excellent Moly 60 paste.

That is one thorough post Bounce. Thanks for the info.

Howdy from the Denton county side of the Metromess. :cownoy:

thanx for the spectacular post,,

I am going to change tyres this week,, the local shop wanted 85 bucks to install ,,, front n back,, tyre shop $50,, if I remove the wheels and take them in it's $10 a tyre,, sooooo,, hhhmmmm??!!! that means I save $65 or $30,,, much fuel,, for the bike and me on road trip!!!!!

I have 3600 miles on BattleAxes,,, they suck wet ***

I am putting on Avon 45/46

Thanks Bounce re WD40. I now read the service manual recommends Kerosene (I think that's what we call paraffin in uk).

Just grabbed myself a 36mm socket from ebay:

Socket

What is it with all these VW sockets available?
