My college freshman daughter seems to agree with you. She enrolled at Millsaps College this past fall and other than a couple weeks disruption from Katrina, she loves it. Long way from Oregon to visit tho, and I can't wait to see home for spring break.

Bikerskier, when I look outside my office window--I look out onto the campus of Millsaps! You and your's must be Methodist as am I. Mississippi has such a negative connotation nationwide, so when I have the opportunity, I try to show some positive things about our state. The info above are things most people do not know about our state, I wish the pic's had been a bit larger, I may try and work on that today. I am not from here but I have lived here long enough to call Mississippi home ;) !

Now thats more like it! stuff here I bet you never knew about Mississippi

I knew ya'll wasn't all bad. Ya'll did have sense enough to live next door to us! ALABAMA!

I was stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi MS for my technical training while in the USAF. I had a great time. I wouldn't have bothered visiting MS for all the reasons your post mentioned, but the food was damn good (off base).

A few years ago I was visiting a professor pal at LSU in Baton Rouge.I was on a brand new, fancy BMW 1100RT(junk). I was a yankee decendant of civil war Union combat vets & had travelled very little in the deep south. I announced my intention of riding back to my yankee home on backroads through Mississippi. My academic firends were horrified and warned I'd be taken for a "civil rights"worker and harrassed. I went anyway, stopping off at many 'redneck' roadhouses & cafes. NEVER met finer people anywhere, black or white. One redneck looking character actually APOLOGIZED for the hollywood image which so wrongly represents Mississippi .Took a black fellow a ride on the Beemer.Had a blast. I've done a lot of touring, but that trip will always be a favorite.
