Not sure where to post this so I'll let the admins move it to an appropriate spot.
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with this event or the organizers, but I do live where this will occur. It was a real hoot last year - a very good party - street dances and so on. All events are free. Robbie Knievel jumped last year. They do have a web site. It might make a good stop for those touring the Montana Rockies at this time. Accommodations may be hard to come by by I could probably be talked into it.
Big Sky
Records could fall at Evel Days
By Jenna Cederberg, of The Montana Standard - 06/07/2007
Several world records are set to fall at Evel Knievel Days 2007.
Motorcycle jumper Trigger Gumm will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for distance by jumping 330 feet — and over 52 cars — on Park Street. Gumm will have only one chance to clear the 130-foot ramp and land the jump.
“Evel (Knievel) set the deal and said, ‘There’s only one jump,’” Evel Knievel Days’ executive director Bill Rundle said.
Cycle jumper Lou “Rocket” Re will try to set the Guinness World Record in firewall crashing by plowing through 10 walls. Re will be allowed several practice runs with fewer walls leading to the final jump.
But with less than eight weeks until the event, set for July 26-28, the lineup for the weekend is still fluid. Requests by acts and vendors to take part in the event are still being taken, Rundle said.
“I still have a ton of stuff (coming in),” Rundle said. “It’s like this every year — I’ll have more people coming and trying to get in.” The festival is also waiting on several sponsorships and funding sources to come through. Totals for this year are not set, but last year it took nearly $180,000 to put the event on, Rundle said.
Rundle hopes a raffle for a 2007 Harley Davidson FLHT Electra Glide motorcycle, custom painted with an American flag theme by local artist Mike Tillo, will help fund a portion of Evel Knievel Days.
This year, all food vendors will be assigned a specific area within the event, creating a food court.
A youth motorcycle experience will kick off the event on Thursday, July 26.
Several gold medal-winning motocross riders and other motorcycle attractions will be at the festival.
Hamilton chainsaw sculptor Lisa Foster will be on scene each day of the event constructing a wooden sculpture of Knievel, who has been active in forming the events at this year’s festival.
“We talk almost every day,” Rundle said. “He tells me what he likes and doesn’t like. If it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t be doing this. He started it.” A fireworks show on Saturday, July 28, will mark the end of the event.
Last year, Rundle estimated that throughout the three day event, more than 70,000 people flooded the streets to witness the fun.
“Last year I think we had 42 states represented,” Rundle said. “[This year] we’re having people come in from all over the country. In fact, all over the world.”
