Since getting the new bike I've got the irresistible urge to show it off.

The Sierra Nevada mountains have so much fun this year.

It was hot in the San Joaquin Valley today. Actually we are in a heat wave that is in its 27th day above 100 Degrees (although one day only got to 99). My riding friends were going all the way to Lee Vining across Tioga Pass but I needed to get back a little sooner so I peeled off and went to Glacier Point. This is a photo of Half Dome over the top of the wind shield,

It is summer and there were lots of inconsiderate car drivers that just can't see why anyone needs to go quicker than they are going. Why worry that there is a train of vehicles behind them. Oh well I got home no worse for wear.

Every time I see pictures of this bike, it just makes it seem that much prettier-and she is fast as well1 ;)

Nice photos. I have hiked to the top of Half Dome and the views are incredible from there. The cables are a STEEP climb on the backside trail up to the summit.

One heck of a drop-off. :D

You need some PIPES, MANG!
:D
I put Two Bros on mine and they sound really good but after about an hour they start to wear on you. These ******* are loud! I took them off for the EOM and installed the stock cans. I don't like riding in anyones exhaust noise and doubt others would like riding in mine. I'll put them back on when I get home for riding to work and tooling around town. Sorry for the Hijacking of the thread.

More 2005 Yosemite pics...

El Capital IS slightly bigger than the FJR

That is an awesome road. So much so, that Brenda has vowed to never go on it again (not because of my driving). So, from now on, I'll have to travel it solo. It's the only way to head north from Fresno on the bike, unless one is in a major hurry.

I like it too!

I need to ride CA HWY49 West of Yosemite.  Nice pictures thanks for sharing.
I got to ride Hwy 49 last August for the first time (live in SoCal)*. First, all the cars and trucks let you pass :yahoo: Second, lots of the turnouts are just before turns so there's lots of sand and gravel in the turns when the cars return to the road :sad2: Be careful when you ride it but have fun.

* I was staying with my bikeless friends in Oakhurst (BMW LT transmission case cracked in Utah). After riding 49 for the first time I had such a big $hit eating :D you could see the pain in my friend's face.

If anyone is planning on riding CA Hwy 49 between Auburn and Placerville I would suggest a little sidetrip. Hwy 193 goes from Cool (just on the other side of the North and Middle Forks of the American River from Auburn) up through Georgetown and meets up with Hwy 49 again in Placerville. To get to Placerville from Georgetown you will be going through what the locals (I would be one of them) call Chili Bar. It's a little stretch of road over the South Fork of the American River that you don't want to lose it on. Whoever made the road forgot to put in guardrails. On the other hand, they just repaved that section of Hwy 193 in Fall '04 and it is really nice. There are a couple of corners that can catch you off guard so be careful.

I live between Cool and Georgetown on Hwy 193 and worked in Placerville for a couple of years. Pretty much why I never got more than 4000 miles out of a set of FJR tires and no more than 15,000/set on my car. It is fun!!

These are some of the roads available from Reno while attending the Nat'l met.

Hwy 49-193-Cool, down to Foresthill Rd...easy-peasy.

Hwy 49 by Yosemite....a looong day ride, but as the pictures show, well worth the effort.

Y'all need to come prepared to enjoy all the Sierra Nevada Mountains have to offer in regards to interesting roads, great scenery and Gold Rush history.
