I used the TFX website to get a quote to transport my FJR from Calgary to Halifax (thinking about a summer tour over there), and got an email back from Adam the following day quoting $1350CAD + tax, one-way, door-to-door, fully insured - including up to 200lbs personal items in/on the vehicle.

$2700 gives me a sad. I might get a better rate if I called and worked through some details rather than just a basic web quote, I guess...

Anyway, it's probably irrelevant but just an FYI for anyone curious.

Another idea, check with eaglerider.com they are an international motorcycle rental company. I do not know if they have a location anywhere on PEI but you can always check. They certainly have multiple sites in California. If you reserve early you can get something other than a sofa couch on two wheels (Hardley Davidson). I rented a Honda ST1300 several years ago in Florida and it cost about $1000 for 7 days including insurance.

A few years back i shipped mine to Vancouver , i'm in Newfoundland . What i did was go to my local dealer and they saved the crate a new FJR came in. I brought them my FJR and they put mine in that crate. I had a good price from just a regular freight trucking company. I had the bike shipped to a Yamaha dealer just outside of Vancouver , they recieved my bike , took it out of the crate and got it ready for the road for me. I flew in with my side bags and top box , got a taxi to the dealer . Installed side bags and top box and me and the better half rode back to Newfoundland. Was a great trip, good days and bad days , one of the bad days was in southern Alberta we had to come off the raod for a day because of snow , was cold riding there for a few days.

Thanks for all the ideas for shipping but it looks like I will have to pass on this trip at this time. Shipping quotes were $2-3000 and I don't have enough time to ride out and back. It now looks like I'll be joining some friends planning a trip in mid June heading down to see some NHRA drag races in Englishtown, NJ then some twisties in Pennsylvania and western NY. Not a bad alternative. The Pacific coast will have to wait.

Sorry to hear you cannot do the trip to L.A. this year. When you decide to do it next, you may want to check the cost of riding your bike to one of the New England cities and having it shipped from there to California. If you coordinate that with flying from that city to California you may be able to put together an affordable plan. $2000-3000 is *********. You can ship a bike from the US east coast to west coast for under $1000USD.
