As mentioned in a previous post, I am debating riding the FJR up to WFO from San Diego or heading up early and trailering my WR450 and the Feejer and getting some off-roading in.

If I ride the FJR, I was considering sending a box to the hotel with additional clothes and such.

Would this make me a high maintenance, limp d#%k, bed wetting, money wasting, metrosexual?

or

A forward thinking, efficient, well organized, Type A, over-achiever?

BTW- I am well aware that I am lobbing a softball with this thread but seriously, do y'all ever ship things to your riding destinations?

I carry what I need and don't need what I can't carry.

That said, it doesn't matter to me what you bring or how it gets there.

What are you going to ship if you're not bringing the dirtbike and need those riding clothes? Wait, don't answer that! You don't need a suit and tie for the dinners..... Get a topcase?

I've been on the road for as long as 5 weeks when I rode to South America and didn't need more that the 2 saddle bags and a bungie net for the rear seat to hold rain gear and light jacket.

Lay out everything you want to take/think you will need, then get rid of at least half of it.

People are going pretty easy on you here so far, fella  .

I hate to bag on a fellow San Diegan, so I'll say this: Get a topcase, and become familiar with the constant loss clothing system.

i had tires shipped to wfo '06, and the hotel 'business office' wanted to charge me +/- $20 to pick them up over the counter...

i refused, they said they'd charge my room, but i never saw the charge...

btw, i rode from south florida (2000 + miles) with everything i needed... as a friend from chruch says about carrying things on a m/c: that's why god invented bungie cords...

on the other hand, if you're 'metrosexual' and all THAT entails, be proud!!! just don't ask me to go shopping with you...

lol....

Show all these other phucks your true color and tow a TRAILER to WFO..

Then pack the trailer with beer once there and see how many folks LUV you!

Uhh, no, have never shipped stuff to a destination.. but many times have shipped stuff back.. like all the freakin' camping gear - tent, bags, cook stove, blah blah blah.. and then just carried a little magic piece of plastic..

If you do take the WR, you will be rewarded with some awesome off-road riding. Do you have enough time for all the fun?

Well, it's a known fact that your Max Factor Make-up kit (thanks, skoot, for the tip) will not travel well in the heat, so I suppose it would be best to send ahead... Of course, those mullet-headed fellers just north of the AZ/UT border don't much care wha'cha look like when they get busy with you. ;)

Hmmmmmm, a new contest for swag, perhaps? Best Make-up?

Edit to what Iggy said: I believe there will be a portage charge if not sent to a guest already there, which will result in a tip only. But please to call and check.

I'll just add a very important point Malve. Contact the hotel first if you consider it because I can't remember the terms. They may want to charge you special for receiving and holding a box. And if they do charge you--please make it clear that you're doing it personally.

Thanks.

Dude, when I was a kid, I used to love the fact that I could put **** in the side cages (saddlebags) of my Schwinn bicycle and haul it around, whatever I needed. And I could go all over the neighborhood, taking everything I needed or wanted to play with.

Okay, fast forward. One of the cool things about a motorcycle is that you can get on it and ride it to wherever in the hell you feel like. Wanna go to L.A. today? No prob. One of the cool things about an FJR motorcycle is that you can get there in comfort AND pack all your **** on it. It's like camping. It's about roughing it. Its about simplifying things....

Forget about metro this and that and what people think. Get your mind straight--it's about the ride and the reduction of complex necessities, the temporary abandonment of mass material consumption and of having to have it all.

Just you and your bike and what's in the bags is a kind of meditation that is good for the soul.

Are we finished here?

I was going to ship tires. Does that make me Metrosexual? I've never had *** with a car before, but I'm willing to learn.

It's about roughing it.
Knock, knock... Hellllllllooooooooo! We're staying at a Marriott, not a KOA. Roughing it, ch'yeah, right!
Hey, I got carried away.... A little too much Thoreau when I was a lad. Anyway, it's that roughing it ******** that caused me to give up backpacking--can't ever get a good night's sleep.

Looking forward to that queen-sized bed at the Marriott. :D

Hell, have you seen the Waldon Pond area of Mass.? It ain't exactly rustic anymore. Take the essentials. a 12-pack, underwear, a shirt and pants, and quarters for the laundry....sheesh.
