EDIT: Ok, I've gotten into it. It's pouring down rain, so I might as well give it a try.

It's easier than I thought. Just remove the side covers and remove the shift arm and servo from the left side. You have easy access to the top bplts now!

I started looking into what it would take to remove the stock shock on a 2006. If you thought the ABS mechanism was complicated before, you ain't seen nothin yet!
Looks to me like the only way to get to the top of the shock is to remove everything under the seat and then drop the inner fender? Another way might be to remove the airbox cover and filter, then remove the airbox housing from under the tank?

Anyone have a 2006 maintainance manual, or that has done the procedure that can confirm the proceedure? I don't have my maintenance manual yet, so I'm sorta flying blind.

When I get everything out of the way and, uhm, tease back the "under tray" (which is moulded to the freakin fender, duh), I can see the top of the shock and the bolts, directly under the large airbox body.

I just can't figure out any other way to get wrenches in there on the top hardware, and I don't want to bungle it..... :(

Thanks!
Uhm, take lots of pics.

I don't have an '06, but replacing the shock on my '03 with an Ohlins required me to take some bolt out of the subframe and a few other places and have someone lift the subframe and take the shock out of the top. Sounds bad, but not as bad as it sounds.

No, I dropped the shock out of my '04 ABS in minutes. That's EASY.

The '06, you just can't GET to the top hardware.

Bueller? Anyone? Anyone?

Is the shock itself the same as in earlier years {interchangable}. I'm wondering if my Penske on my '05 will fit my new '06.

It's easier than I thought. Just remove the side covers. Release the shift arm and remove (or drop down) the servo mechanizm that is directly left of the shock bolt. Then you can get at the top bolts from both sides.
