Pulled a piece of glass out of the center of the rear tire today. It left a cut 1/8" deep and 1/2" long.

The cut depth is a little less than the depth of tread I have remaining.

I'm inclined to leave it and monitor air pressure. Any thoughts guys?

Chances of another shard finding it's way into the exact same slice is what I would weigh. Me, I'd prolly ride on it and just keep an eye on it. Then again, you have Deb to think of, too... :dntknw:

My opinion is your fine. Tread is just plain rubber. As long as the structure (belts) of the tire was not compromised, and I would think you would know right away if it was, there is nothing wrong.

It's all about dollars and sense.

If you got the dollars -- just replace it.

If you're a cheap *******, keep on riding till it's bald (check it often, and have a backup plan for when it fails) FWIW.

If I read you correctly, it never got anywhere near the belts. To compromise the tire, you'd have to cut through the belts and casing. Since you got nowhere near, I wouldn't worry. Just consider it an extra sipe.

rhulcher...do people like you really have to beat up on people like me? I ride it till it's broke or swervin.
