This has come up before, and I've read the posts I found in my Google search. Since some of those go back as far as 2008, I'm looking for some more up-to-date experience.

I've got a set of Givi bags on the way that have a smooth plastic insert on the case lids in the same place you'd find the painted section of the FJR side cases. I'll have this part of the bag painted to match the bike.

Just like the FJR cases I'm concerned about hitting the right case with my boot when getting on and off. I'm thinking that clear plastic wrap would work well. I've watched several YouTube videos and nothing looks too difficult. I anticipate that down the road I'll need to replace the film and fit a new piece as the film gets marred. I've also seen the spray-on version by 3M so include thought on that as well.

Have you done it or had it done?
Were you please?
How long did it last/look good?
What product(s) did you use?

Thanks.

Looks good in that application but that would pretty much cover all of the painted area on the Givi.

Me too. I have skid my boot across the top on the cases after applying the 3M Paint Defender and the scuffs pretty much wipe off. I've had the film on since December, about 8k miles, and it still looks good. Can't imagine what the cases would like like if they weren't protected! Oh, instead of just doing the top of each case, I also applied the protection to the upper part of the front of each case...I probably should have covered the full front area since bugs and debris can hit that entire area.

I've never had any issue cleaning the marks off. Even after leaving them on there nearly a year. :)

Definitely not something to lose sleep over.
