That should not have happened on the Wing. It has a sensor for that that will shut down the engine. Unless it was damaged and/or routine check not perform I wounder if it is really because of the side stand?!

HD beware ,there is no sensor on the HD, at least the last time I checked.

It doesn't really make sense... How would a kickstand leave a 138 foot long scrape??? Even if the sensor was broken and he left the kickstand down, it would have skipped along, not enough pressure tocause a scrape in the concrete. Even if it was locked down and caused a scrape, it shouldn't be 138 feet long. It just doesn't make sense.....

Depending on speed, it only takes a few seconds time to cover that distance. If the side-stand wasn't lubed/maintained? If the vectors involved (lean angle, road super-elevation, m/c direction) were just right/wrong? Side-stands down can cause bad crashes by levering the rear wheel off the road.

The 65 year-old rider may be a contributing factor, too...? :dribble: :(

Amateur sleuths... <_< Obviously it was Colonel Mustard with a candelstick holder

There is no where near enough information for any of us to guess what happened. So why do we try to invent a reason for a fall.

Hate to admitt it but that almost happened to me a couple of times back in the 70's and 80's.

One time , I just got on my 78 suzuki gs750e and started driving down the highway and heard the loud scrapping sound of my kickstand dragging on the pavement as I was approaching 70MPH. Luckily, I was able to lean the bike to right and come to a stop safely.

Glad they now have that safety switch that prevents you from riding with the kickstand down.

+1

I'm skeptical of the reported cause for the crash. <_< 138' scrape from the side stand?? :glare:

The article stated that it was likely the kickstand. We didn't invent a reason, just analyzing the report... Which seems a little off.
