Who, besides me, braved the onslaught of 4-wheelers in the Gorham area this past weekend? I saw at least one 2014 and I think a 2015 along with one or more of something silver but didn't get a close enough look to determine the year. The area was swamped with ATV's. They had a "Climb Mount Washington" event which turned out to be a disaster with hour long (or more) holdups on the 16 between Gorham and the Mount Washington autoroad. There were literally thousands of these things on trailers or in the back of pickup trucks all weekend long. Hope this doesn't become a regular thing in the area!

Mostly MA plates, I imagine. Good business for the local economy. They can have the auto road for one day a year.

We give the entire state to the Hardley Pirates for 10 days every year.

I think they had to cancel the Mt. Washington thing partway through the day on Sunday. All parking was completely full with hundreds of vehicles (and pissed-off people) still on Route 16 blocking traffic in both directions. I guess they did not anticipate how popular this event would be. Good thing I was camping in the area rather than counting on finding a hotel. I don't think rooms were available anywhere close. My trip down Route 16 on the way to some local riding was early enough on Sunday morning that I missed the worst of it. It still took a half hour of stop-and-go to get past the mountain. (Parking area wasn't full that early)

It wasn't my 14. Was upstate Maine for my Fathers 91st birthday.

If you had gotten far enough down 16, you could have swung over to Fryburg ME and escaped some of that NH madness.

If I had known about the 16, I would have taken the 113 all the way. I did not get caught as badly as others did later in the day.

NH Rt 16 generally isn't my chosen route, except maybe in the "off season", anyway. Rt 113 is looking really good these days, Hurricane Mt Rd, West Side Rd, Bear Notch Rd., and Rte 153 south of the tourist mecca of Conway. Pretty much anything but Rte 16.

Even the Kank is rough going this time of year on weekends with all the slow drivers and campers. Rte 112 west of I 93 is a far better ride.

I was in Gorham Friday. (On my FJ-09 along with a maroon C14) Passing through on route 2, coming from Berlin heading to Bethel, ME.

Was also on Rt 113, Evans Notch, Route 17 from Rumford/Mexico to Rangeley and 16 from Rangeley to Errol then 26 to Colebrook and rt 3 to Groveton. That rt 110 from Groveton to Berlin was pretty nice in most sections.

As Fred pointed out rt 113 is in pretty good shape and usually very lightly traveled.

I had no idea that this 4 wheeler thing was going on, guess I was just far enough away, fortunately. I did see a bunch in Gorham area, I thought that was just the usual up there.

Yup to all of the above.
