I was riding the other day and caught myself getting very sleepy... I know it sounds crazy to get that sleepy on a motorcycle, but has anyone else done this???? Smitty

Oh, those bars. I thought this was directed at odot. I've never gotten sleepy on the bike. Too many times in the car, but never the bike.

Yep. I headed directly to my daughter's house (I was 200 miles from home) and slept for 15 hours.

Uhm, not the most brilliant thing I've ever done. I knew my limitations and made the decision to exceed them. I believe the correct term to define my actions is: STOOPID. I'll never do that again. A motel room is soooo much cheaper than a funeral and I don't want to think of what I'd have put my family through because of MY calculated blunder. YMMV.

Yup. Only a couple times. Very scary. I agree, it's weird that in can happen on a bike.

This is the thing, it has never happend on any of my long Iron Butt rides. When riding those, I am way more attuned to my body. When I start getting drowsy, I stop. Sometime perhaps I should stop sooner, as I am fighting it, but I always stop.

The times where I actually dozed off have almost always been in daylight, when it's hot as fuke out, and after a good night's sleep. I don't get it. Other than I am a night person by nature.

Sometimes that big, heavy, drowsiness sets in for no apparent rhyme or reason. The trick is to recognize when that is happening, and take action immediately, as in stop!

I have never been sleepy on a bike. Too many cages and other distractions on the road. Then again, I have never had a Gold Wing :taunt:

Hey TWN did you loose something? I thought this license belonged to you

Is that a DL or a copper ID? Either way too funny to not toss out there  .

No, never dozed off on a sickle. Not even on 700 miles days and not sure why. Maybe 'cause I can't lean back into a comfy plush leather seat with headrest and, and, zzzzzzz.

If you get tired enough, your going to get sleepy no matter what. Guys in war zones fall asleep and that is about as intense as it gets.

Like SkooterG, the only time it was bad was a trip through southern Oregon to San Francisco in August last year on my V-Twin. 100+ heat and sun mixed with the vibrations found me yawning and nodding...........ended up drinking water every 50 miles from all the dehydration, and I'd feel fine for another 50, then the same thing. Learned my lesson though.

1) Bought an FJR

2) Bought a camelback this week as the hot weather has hit again

3) I get enough sleep before riding

Just my $.02

I thought maybe you were referring to the Gray-Bar Inn :p We won't go there

Never gotten sleepy riding the bike, but have several times in the cage.

Not me, but my 16 yr old stepson fell asleep while riding his BICYCLE, rear-ended a car and ended up in the emergency room.

Pray tell....why is this directed to me? twn? Huh...Yeah, I was up for 24 hours by the time I got to flagstaff but, I never dozed. Was tired as hell, though.

Smitty, I've gotten drowsy, but always pull off when I do. My daughter kept falling asleep on me last week and banging her helmet into mine! I thought she must have been really bored, but then I found out she had taken a double dose of cold medicine!

I found myself dozing toward the end of a SS1000 I did weekend before last. I think it was a combonation of excessive heat and not enogh rest the night before. I immediatly got off and to a break then finished the ride. We did 1085 miles total

No....it's where the good guys hung out when that disease wiped out humanity.

I voted yes, but that was over 40 years ago. Been without sleep the night before and was about 3 am the following day.

I was returning to base [Naval] when I had this warm fuzzy feeling that just said "blink slooowly" I did and hit a sand dune. No damage to bike or self, only to my pride.

Duty officer enquired whether I had spent my liberty sleeping in the bush.
