I was travelling the same route when this happened ... just behind me.

I saw and felt the flash, but didn't know what had happened until I saw it on the news.

It was an editing error. Should have read:

The man was wearing a helmet, instead of the recommended tin foil hat.

In Minnesota rags, the spiel is to mention non-helmet useage in case of death, no mention if death resulted yet a helmet was in use. They have standards to meet.

I mean.... Is it OK to send the paramedics and ambulance and cost tax payers money to render assistance at the scene since he was wearing a helmet...??? David E. wants to leave him dying in the ditch if he wasn't wearing a helmet regardless of the situation so, what if he hadn't been wearing a helmet and been struck by lightning? Should he still by lying by the side of the road? Extreme case but it sheds more light on the helmetless riding argument.

The jerk in front of me today who had his left hand turn signal on and then pulled to the right side of the street to make a U-Turn. Would it be ok for me to get out and kick his *** for the accident he could have caused if I was on my bike and he didn't see me and made an illegal U-Turn right in front of me?

Does this mean every cage driver who is not wearing a seat belt and gets into an accident get the same no treatment rule.

Does this also mean that any criminal that uses a weapon and hurts someone, when the cop then shoots them do they also get no treatment.

When does it end.

Oh, c'mon jestal... I think you're stretching David E's comments a smidge. If you're out there doing your thing in the safest of manners and a lightening bolt decides to make you into a well done biker burger, that's a completely different discussion - helmeted or not. Didn't Lee Trevino get zapped on the golf course? Freak occurrences (yours truly :blink: ) and accidents happen. Not wearing a helmet is not an accident. Stunting is not an accident. It's a conscience decision of a selfish individual, IMO.

Did you read Fred Rau's ed piece in June's MCN (I think it was June)? Guy buys a bike, test rides it around the store's lot, loses the front on some sand and flies into a snow plow blade, head first. Dead. No helmet. Estimated speed - 5 mph.

Sorry for the lightning struck rider and his family...
