I did a search and could not find anything on this.

Before I called Corbin, I would like to know if one of you guys did this mod.

Have the Smuggler rekeyed to macht the ignition hey ?

I went to a key store and ther could not do it with the actual plastic lock installed.

Thanks

No, but I always watch for threads by you, Pierre... just so I can open it and watch your Avatar!

Amazing movement! :yahoo:

I happen to have a smuggler and a few extra locks laying around, will give it a try and report back.

Corbin replied and saying that it's a good idea, and they will send this request to their R & D for the units to come.

I am pretty sure that we could replace the baril, let me know if it works.

Thanks

OK, I made it work but with a few caveats.

The Yami key is to broad to fit the smuggler lock but can be adapted to fit if you aren't worried much about security. First the Yami lock won't work in the Corbin housing, close but to long. The Yami spare lock could work but would require reworking of the entire smuggler mechanism.

With the housing removed the lock can be removed by tripping the little tab and sliding the lock out, being careful not to lose the springs (2)

I will be hard to see in this picture (it's at 12 o'clock here) but there is a small brass tab that must be pushed back to release the guts.

After the guts are removed, insert your ignition key. I got lucky and the first 2 wafers matched my key, which is all the deeper the key will go. I simply removed the three wafers I couldn't trip and reassembled. Works like a champ. You may need to rearrange the wafers depending on your application. This may seem to be a very weak lock but it really is no weaker that the stock Corbin. I managed to lock my key in the Smuggler tonight and picked the lock within 2 minutes of trying, having never picked a lock before. The lock I have now also works with 2 of 18 keys on my key ring. I don't that I will leave it this way, at least until I can rekey the GIVI as well.
