Came across this today. Not sure how many of you have bikes without a center stand.

But as my Bonneville came without one, (it is a 200 buck accessory) I've been looking for a (cheap) alternative to make lubing the chain easier.. Fairly brilliant idea, and portable:

That's pretty nifty. I've seen where there's a bar you just jam under there but the folding action definitely looks easier.

As someone who parked daily with a rear stand, I have to say they aren't as awkward as made out to be, but they certainly aren't portable.

I will say a rear stand is still a good thing to have if you don't have a centerstand, not sure I'd trust my bike on that while changing tires.

I am assuming that the side stand is taking the load on the other side, no?

I have to admit, I would be concerned that this scheme would overload the side stand, and that it would eventually fail in fatigue ... but maybe this fear is misplaced. Side stands are probably over designed so that it might not be an issue.

It is pretty cute though, and it would give you a way to lube the chain more easily on a longish trip. It looks small enough to packwithout much inconvenience.

I'm glad we don't need 'em for the FJRs.

Side stand on most bikes is plenty strong enough, I've seen dealers routinely moving bikes around in tight spaces using the same technique as in the video.

What would worry me is the bike rolling forward off the side-stand

Watch the video, they include a strap for the front brake and specify that as the reason.
Ah. Ok. Didn't watch the video. Still don't like it. But then, I have a centre-stand and don't have a chain. Last time I had a chain was on my Bonneville for which I had the centre-stand fitted, its exorbitant price didn't seem so bad since I had them fit it from new.

Son has the problem on his Ducati Monster. He might find this useful. Hmmm ...

Well, I went and ordered one from a local dealer. 53 bucks tax included.

The only reason I can see for it is just to make oiling/cleaning the chain (and perhaps cleaning the wheel itself) easy. (Bonnie's have the chain on the right, so the bikes even leaning the right way)

With sealed O ring chains, this is a two to three times a year procedure. So I'm not worried about extra wear to the side-stand, and I'd not use it to remove the rear wheel...other than using it to get the bike up on a more stable jack.

I'll let you know if it's as easy to use as it is in the video ....

I bought one of these instead, very happy with it for my FZ-09

I can move the bike around all over the garage with zero hassle.... Was $80
