So I was bored, stopped in at the local Yamaha dealer. Test rode a very nice 2007 Black Cherry, very nearly bought it.

Except.

There it was, in the corner. :dribble: And I've always wanted one.

So... I sold the Harley, and now I have, in my garage, all for me - a 1998 Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird. :yahoo:

Holy mother of God is it fast. Holy crap do I love this thing already. Holy crap, where the hell am I gonna put bags? :)

Seriously though, I'm going to take the XX to Colorado in May for a long weekend and see how hauling long distance is. If it sucks, maybe I'll buy a used Yamaha Road Star, or find a nice used FJR! :)

Meanwhile ... I'm loving every day over 40 that the roads are dry. C'mon warmer weather!!!

Cool, I need one of those, one of these days.

Corbin Beetle Bags would be neat but I don't know if they make for the Blackbird but.......https://www.superblackbird.com/default.cfm

I've got a riding buddy who's put 40k miles on his Y2K Blackbird. I've managed to ride it a time or two and fully understand why this bike was a media darling. The connection between the throttle and the engine is just hard to explain; more like turning a rheostat than a throttle. The engine feels more like an electric motor. Great bikes. Oh, and you can LD ride on them

Congratulations on your purchase.

I think this thread calls for dusting off the famous Hunter S. Thompson quote:

There are some things nobody needs in this world, and a bright-red, hunch-back, warp-speed 900cc cafe racer is one of them - but I want one anyway, and on some days I actually believe I need one. That is why they are dangerous.

Dude, that's my email signature! :D

I'll get some pics posted this weekend!

hehehe . . . yeah, "fast" is right. Conga rats on the sleek rocket ship you bought.

I'm on my second one. (Notice the avatar?) I have an '03 now, had a '97 before that. Get that thing up over about 6000 rpm and it literally blurs scenery as it stretches your arms.

I use soft luggage on mine -- Cortech sport tail and saddle bags and a tank bag -- works well. I can't carry as much as I can on the FJR and it isn't as comfortable on long trips, but a lot of guys do tour all the way across the country on them, and hard luggage is available. Givi fits of course, there's an OEM set up that I think was mostly marketed in Europe but can be had from here, and Corbin's Beetle bags are sleek, but real spendy. Honda's VFR bars (from later model V-Tech VFRs only) will give you a little more upright posture, as will Heli-bars.

While the FJR is the one bike I'd own if I could only have one, the XX is more agile (though OEM suspension is probably its weakest feature), and definitely faster. You have to buy a Wing to get a smoother engine, though. Amazing how Honda was able to generate that much mid range torque, HP and still make it almost vibration free and durable as hell. Great bike! Here's my '03 with soft bags, loaded for a June '06 tour and pictured at a turnout on the coast on Hwy 1:

Micron 4-2-1 and PCIII, Carozzerria wheels, Traxxion AK-20 and Penske suspension, etc.
