Up for sale is my red/black 2012 V-Strom 1000 with 13,XXX miles. I'm the original owner (bike bought new 2/2013 at Colorado Powersports in Thornton, CO). Always garaged, never dropped. Mature owner. (Why am I selling? I've decided it's time to indulge my lust for an FJR.)
As you probably already know, this is an incredibly versatile motorcycle. Commuting? Of course. Two-up touring? No problem. Dirt/gravel roads? A piece of cake. A little canyon carving? You bet! And all with absolute reliability.
This is the most comfortable bike I've ever owned. Great, roomy sit-up ergonomics. I rode 1,050 miles one day last July, and have ridden a few 850- and 900-mile days this year. I have no discomfort whatsoever for the first 600 or so miles.
With a curb/wet weight of about 525 pounds, this bike handles extremely well in the twisties. It's also much easier to push around a garage or parking lot than heavier machines.
I've added a number of accessories to make this bike into a real "adventure tourer":
* MCCruise electronic cruise control.
* Weatherproof Givi side cases and top case. (All bags keyed alike.)
* Tankring-mount tankbag. (Includes 12V power source.)
* Larger windscreen on adjustable mount. (Factory screen also comes with the bike.)
* Stebel air horn -- it's loud!
* LED tail- and brake-lights added to the side cases for greater conspicuity.
* OEM centerstand (an extra-cost option ...why?!).
* Fender extender (protects oil cooler).
* Powdercoated aluminum radiator guard.
I've also installed a Power Commander PC-V fuel management system. Most pre-2014 DL1000s will stumble at lower RPMs due to excessively lean fueling from the factory. The Power Commander corrects this.
Colorado Powersports performed the 600-mile service. I changed the oil at 3,544 miles, changed the oil and filter at 7,854 miles, and changed the oil again after a 4,300-mile trip at 12,615 miles. The bike is in excellent shape mechanically -- I wouldn't hesitate to jump on it and ride to either coast. The Bridgestone BattleWing tires have about 5,400 miles on them, and look to have about the same amount left on them.
Thanks for looking.
