NICE!!!!! I was supposed to have a TRPA hearing at the Lake today, but agency staff somehow failed to get it on the agenda. I could use a ride, but also have way too much to do. Hmmmmm?!?

Hwy 4 Ebbets Pass open. :yahoo:

Glacier Point Road in Yosemite open. :dribble:

Hwy 140 leading into Yosemite from Mariposa County partially reopened today.

Hwy 120 Tioga Pass - due to open in aproximately 3 weeks.

You're a bad man. I just may have to ride Sonora and Ebbetts tomorrow. Gear test, you know. :D

I just got my perforated leather pants today and need to check them out. (Though I'd probably be smarter to do it with the non perforated jacket and pants through the mountains tomorrow.) Trying to get a feel for what I'll need for the Blackbird meet in 2 weeks in Red Bluff. Gonna be riding through the Sierras twice, up 1 from Bodega to Fortuna and then 3 days in and around Red Bluff, the Trinity Alps, etc. Figuring I'm gonna be suiting up for reasonably foreseeable temperature ranges between 35 and 100 degrees. Was kinda thinking perforated leather for that, with layers and rain suit to add the steam bath heat effect if needed. (Oh, and my soft luggage on the XX will carry a fraction of what I can take on the FJR.)

I'll be checking out Hwy 4 and Hwy 108, leaving early on Sunday morning. Lots of work to get done before now and then. :(

Has anyone been over 4 or 108 yet? If so, what was the road condition?
Was gonna go today, but it's really windy right now, and a client called with a problem I have to deal with right now. Pretty inconsiderate the day before a 3 day weekend, I'd say. Usually not much of a problem for sand right after opening, since they didn't sand it during the winter, although Ebbetts got sanded hard right before they closed it last fall.

If we get a snow after they open, they run the sand trucks up there and really make it treacherous.

Damn me!!! I spoke too soon. It snowed here in Gardnerville (at el. 4750') between 6 am and 8 am this morning. Snow on the mountains, and probably sand on the pass roads now too. Aaaarrrggghhhhh!!

Yeah! They showed 3"-4" @ Kingvale, so you KNOW the others are now sanded. IIRC, 108 and 4 are at least 1,000' higher than Donner.

Sonora pass highway elevation at the summit - 9628ft

Ebbets pass at the summit - 8731ft

Pictures to follow from both highways tomorrow.

We ran Hwy4 east to Monitor pass, 395 south, then back over Hwy108 today, what a HOOT!! Lots of snow still on top and a little ice in a few places. :cold:

Monitor Pass was deserted, which gave us a free run with no cagers from the end of 4 to 395. :superman:

We ate at Walker Burger and might I recommend the blackberry milkshake for anyone stopping by there in the future. :nyam:
