The day for me actually started at 3:30am. While I appreciated the ability to ride due East from Napa to Sacramento while the sun was still asleep, I felt as though I should have just closed a few bars and then headed for the hills. I probably would have been more awake.

Be that as it was, the weather was looking good and enjoying a cup of coffee with Old Michael at our 5:30 Starbuck's appointment would be just the pick me up I needed.

Arriving at 5:30 I was greeted by an all too awake and cheery barista. I sat down in the big comfy chair to await OM's arrival. After a trip to get some cream and another to use the restroom (no the two aren't related) I sat back down to again await OM's arrival. Sure enough at about 5:45 I see the familiar yellow helmet pulling in. We exchange pleasantries, I take a couple more sips of coffee, and away we go. So much for easing into it.

We take off for the hills along roads both familiar and strange and spend the most of the day above 6,000 feet.

I won't bore you with anymore details except to say that when we parted he suggested I do the ride report. Obviously he was tiring of the Forum's lackluster response to his previous 10,000 ride reports.

Not wanting to shirk my responsibilities I came home, downloaded my pics and withdrew in horror. I wasn't expecting much since I don't normally take that many pics, but as you'll see in a moment, there's a reason we wake up every Sunday looking for OM's reports, not Bokerfork's reports.

A little stop on the way up to Sonora pass. I mentioned to OM that I couldn't understand why so many people drove to Yosemite, paid $20 to get in just to be surrounded with crazy tourists. Here we were in a place just as beautiful and nary a car or person in sight.

IMG_0128.jpg

Okay, maybe the throngs of tourists wouldn't be so bad after all.

IMG_0132.jpg

A few pics of some scenery and then y'all will just have to tune back in when OM gets around to posting his.

Seriously, come back. It'll be worth it. I promise.

A yellow helmet on a pretty blue bike...

You northerners gotta get a better fashion coordinator!!!

Oh smooth. I post a ride report in the ride planning section. More coffee please!
Anyone that gets up at 3am to ride to Sacramento to venture into the dark with Old Michael, can't be assumed to know what part of the forum to post a ride report in..... Next thing you will start wearing a yellow helmet and trying to fly. There is therapy and medication for this type of ailment. Remember this is the same guy that couldn't get up on time to ride with us the previous weekend....

... this is the same guy that couldn't get up ...
I got yer "get up" right here Doc.

Mark, an excellent Regional Ride Planning & Information Exchange (Including Sightings) effort on your part.

...Especially this shot. Those are some really nice.....bushes and stuff. Takes one's breath away. :D

I'm getting ready to lay up on the 8th, at the U.S. Open, and as soon as I finish my round, I'll get some pics -

and my take on the happenings - from our ride yesterday.

And Sante Fe, any fashionista will tell you, yellow goes with everything. You should see my drawers.

Alright then. Here's my take on this "event" from yesterday.

Bokerfork had expressed an eagerness to go for a ride, so I called him Friday.

"Hey Mark. Would you like to go for a ride with me tomorrow?"

"Sure Michael! Whose bike? Yours or mine?"

"Mark, ....we'll each ride our own bike."

"But Michael, when Dr. Rich and I go riding, we -- "

"I'm NOT Dr. Rich!" I snapped.

"See you in the morning."

We began the day by heading south on 49, just as the sun rose.

IMG_3726.jpg

Light traffic and cool air.

IMG_3732.jpg

Passed this near Jackson. It was like looking in a mirror.

IMG_3733.jpg

See anything up there on the right? Bokerfork did too (see brake lights)......just in time.

IMG_3742.jpg

The "I hope he's not coming" peek.

IMG_3745.jpg

On up the hill. Somewhere on 108.

"Back up just a couple of steps."

IMG_3307.jpg

We scrambled about for a bit, snapping photos, and enjoying the brisk air.

IMG_3317.jpg

I carefully scaled a nearby rock bluff, and began taking photos.

IMG_3335.jpg

Suddenly, my calm and concentration were disturbed by this...

IMG_3331.jpg

Dammit!

"Here Mark. Let me assist you..."

IMG_3332.jpg

I couldn't figure out why he'd come up here, .....until after he'd gone back down and I saw this.

IMG_3333.jpg

A couple more shots from this stop. Provide your own comments.

IMG_3344.jpg

He offered to strike this pose naked.

IMG_3350.jpg

Continuing up and over Sonora Pass.

Setting up.

IMG_3748.jpg

Diving in.

IMG_3750.jpg

What do y'all think of this road?

IMG_3751.jpg

Think there's too much ham on this sandwich?

IMG_3754.jpg

Note that I was right on his *** - riding with one hand, taking pictures, ...and scratching my privates.

IMG_3756.jpg

Yes, Bokerfork, I SEE the friggin' tree.

IMG_3765.jpg

We stopped often for photos, but kept a pretty good pace while underway.

IMG_3766.jpg

Almost to 395, and a turn north. High desert.

IMG_3812.jpg

Stopped on 395 to check out some fishermen working the Walker River.

IMG_3823.jpg

Bokerfork.

"Michael. Is that a bathroom?"

IMG_3828.jpg

Me.

"No."

BF.

"I think it's a bathroom."

IMG_3831.jpg

"Well it's NOT!"

IMG_3832.jpg

"Dude?"

IMG_3833.jpg

"I'm leavin'...."

IMG_3835.jpg

North for a bit, and then back west.

IMG_3844.jpg

Kids. Can you spot any violations here?

IMG_3882.jpg

BF had missed his afternoon nap, so we stopped here for some coffee.

IMG_3356.jpg

Then a sedate ride over the Mormon Emigrant Trail,

and back down into the valley and home.

BF bidding me bye-bye.

IMG_3889.jpg

Thanks for joining me on this one Mark.

It was an excellent day of riding.

I'd taken the same route through the mountains just the day before,

and I'll post a report of that with a bunch of "scenery" shots and more route details.

I'll also include photos I'd taken the weekend before,

when I spent two days up there in more "exciting" weather.

... Just when you'd had more than enough of this crap!

I don't see any violations besides an abandoned truck parked in the middle of the lane.

IMG_3882.jpg

Your right Mike, Quite breath taking.

IMG_0142.jpg

Makes me want to play hooky from work tomorrow just to go experience it myself.

:clapping: Thanks for the ride report Gents. :clapping:

What a great report!

I was hoping to ride Sonora Pass during WFO-5, But i assisted another rider who had a get off on 108 back to Reno.

One of these days!

and here I was thinking about how sorry yer *** is OM for not showing at CFR. then you go and post pix of BF's big ride in da hood.. so mi amigos, thank you for the nice ride and oh, :****:

Nice ride report, gents. The Sierras really don't have much going for them, right? I don't understand why people want to ride Sonora Pass when they could just take I-80 further east and then ride in the Nevada desert all day.

Yep 108 is a great ride..we live in Wellington and are lucky to be only about 30 min from 108 and 395. If you like 108 you have to try 4.. Also for a great place to eat stop at the corner of 395 and 208.. Roadhouse..fantastic food and very resonable.
