My brother Mike and I are passing through and now waylaid in Clayton New Mexico on a road trip. 560 miles yesterday. We noticed this morning his 2003 Road King has a flat rear tire and we are stuck. He has innertubes and wire spoke rims. I'm on my Blackbird so all is well. If you can help or point us toward help call 816 365 2828. Thanks for any assistance. We will pay reasonable and necessary expenses.

It snowed last night too so life is funny.

We were pulling out of the Best Western lot and he noticed the big HD would not roll back.

Nick

I'm sorry that I can't offer any help, but for the future you might want to note that for a mere $39 a year AMA membership uncludes roadside assistance coverage for you, your family and all of their wheeled vehicles.

It occurs to me (in a separate post because I can't edit my posts) that you can join instantly online and they give you a temporary card. Interesting enough they will also cover you for a hotel stay if there are delays - read the fine print available on the AMA site.

Just patch it.

No tools? A can of fix-a-flat will get ya rolling. Buy 2 or 3 for back-up.

If it went down overnight, I'm guessing its a pin hole.

A buddy had a flat once while we were in Bum Phucked Egypt, Oklahoma. (spoked wheel tube tire) Put some fix-o-flat in it. He's still riding it... Lazy bastard...

Just remember...

A trip where everything goes smooth is never as memorable as the one where you had schtuff ta figger out....

:)

Best wishes, and regards an all that...

+1, Gunny: I am with rushes, give the fix-a-flat fix a try. Here in the Southwest cholla cactus spines produce slow leaks like that, a can of fix-a-flat will usually seal a tire enough that you can get to a motorcycle shop for a new inner tube. Like Russ says, get a spare can or two of fix-a-flat.

I just looked, an there's a Dollar store in Clayton, and Fix-a-flat is .50 cents off this week...

Russ, I just called Mike and Nick and the tube has a LARGE and continuous hole worn in it from there being corrosion inside of the rim. They are getting the bike to Raton, New Mexico where they can get a new tube installed. Mike is thinking about going to cast wheels on his H-D so he can run tubeless tires in the future, I have cast wheels on my Harley-Davidson's for the same reason.

I love having tubeless tires on all of my motorcycles, wowser do I ever hate tube tires!

Many thanks for your kind offers of assistance and ideas. He is on his way to the HD dealer in Amarillo. Whether it is a puncture or a failure of the rim strip and abrasion of the tube from the inside, tubed tires strike me as an unnecessary added point of failure with no offsetting benefit. So he is probably going to go with cast rims and try to keep his tires (which are new). Thanks again, guys.
