Tried mounting a speker system from a computer (Altec Lancing). They use 12 volt power

It worked but looked real funky so I removed and went back to the ear buds. The trick

with the ear buds is to put the soft spung ear plugs in behind them to hold them in your ear.

I hung a set of Bose 901's on a Beanie helmet ala beer hat

Very loud and clear but speeds over a hunnert made life precarious.

When I first started riding in 1980, I installed what I thought was a state of the art sound system on a Yamaha XS850 with vetter fairing. It was great, but I was only wearing a helmet periodically and have since decided I prefer to stay alive.

I've also experimented with various in-helmet speaker setup (including one that I made from high end headphone components) and custom earspeakers.

I've concluded that passers by and pedestrians get better quality sound with the former setup. The sound goes everywhere but in your ears.

I currently use a new Autocom setup on my LD bike (the FJR) and a mixit with E6's and custom earmolds on the sport bike. I really don't get why Goldwings still come with external speaker systems. It's no longer the sound system of choice!
