Speed Bleeders Question

Exactly how are these things supposed to work? I found a web site that indicated you should open the bleeder 1/4 turn, then pump the lever. I must be doing it wrong, because I got nothing from the lines like this. :unsure:

I gave up, put the stock bleeders back in, and used a Mity-Vac to bleed the lines.

The Spiegler lines are the ****, however. :D

 
I was wondering the same thing??? Let hear it all you FJR and Brake Gurus out there.

Is there a way to prime the the speed bleeders.

you have to have some pressure in the lines for the speed bleeders to work. your options are to use a mighty-vac or something like it to get the lines filled with fluid or bleed the brakes normally with the original bleeders, then install the speed bleeders. reason for this is that there is a little ball valve in the speed bleeder. in order to actuate it, there needs to be some pressure in the line. then when you change your pads and/or fluid the next time, it will be a breeze! i personally use the mighty-vac (available @ autozone and other auto parts stores). makes it a couple minute job as opposed to the normal bleeding procedure. did mine 2 days ago with no problems..good luck. let us know when you succeed. :)

mastercaster is right on. From what I saw while installing mine (just finished about 20 minutes ago) they didn't work well at all until most of the air was gone already. It took a long time to get all the air out but I think they will come in really handy when I need to flush out the brake fluid in the future.

 
With the Speedbleeders, how long does the thread sealant usually hold up?

 
On a "dry" system you need something like this to get things started:

Phoenix Brake and Clutch Bleeder

If you are replacing just the bleeders, no problem. Just remove the old ones, install the Speed Bleeders. None of my bikes ever had GREAT BRAKES, installed I woke up to Speed Bleeders.

So it's the 8125's for the front, and 7100's for the clutch and the rear, correctamundo?

I'm getting ready to (depending on your definition of ready) use one. I have a Mity-Vac and have done it this way in the past. The feature here is that you apply the fluid UPWARDS, the way the air bubbles want to travel anyway. It makes sense to me, but hey!

I hope to install my Galfer lines and Speed Bleeders after the Moto GP round at Laguna.

please post your impression with the new system once you get it done. Would like to know if you like it better than the Mityvac.

 
FWIW, I just replaced the front brakes, fluid, and added a speed bleeder to my WR250F dirtbike last night.

An easy way (IF you have time) is to just remove the factory bleeder until some fluid starts to come out. Watch the res. and keep adding.

THEN..install the speed bleeder, open it ONLY 1/8 turn and start pumping and filling.

I also use a Mityvac, but just tried it this way last night for the helluvit. Worked fine.

And another tick for getting air out near the res. Pump the front lever just slightly and you'll see bubbles come up out of the bottom of the res. I had a spongy lever until I tried quick sort pumps on the lever. Saw no more bubbles, and the thing works fine.

I will do that, but if your lines are dry, you need to do both. A Might-Vac (or equivalent) and the Speed Bleeders.

I just want to make sure that I understand that correctly. I do not have a dry system and I am not installing new brake lines. So, if I want to install the speed bleeders, I can just unscrew the original bleeders without bleeding the fluid first and install the new speed bleeders in place of it?

Then after I install the speed bleeders, I can bleed the fluid using the new bleeders? Can't be that simple, or? :eh:

I also emailed SpeedBleeders directly and asked the same question but have not gotten any answers yet.

Anybody here that is willing to clarify things?
