OK< it's Sunday evening and I"m out for a little ride up to Jasper, Ga. in the early evening. ON my way back at about 7:45 heading south on I575, I just passed a slower moving cage and want to get back into the slow lane because traffic is behind me. Of course I want to distance myself as quickly as possible from the cage I am about to pull in front of, so I drop it down to 4th and let er rip just long enough to do just that. ( We all know how quickly that happens ) Well, no sooner do I get way ahead in a hurry and move back over to the slow lane when Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! there is Mr. Policeman with the radar gun on me............crap!
I check my mirror and I see him inching forward to get into the traffic to come and get me, but there are many cars behind me. I'm about a half a mile from a right hand turn onto Hwy 108 that will take me home. I'm thinking, perhaps he won't get into the traffic soon enough and I can go on my merry way at normal speed. Nope, I make the right hand turn and see him do the same about 100 yds behind me. I immediately signal and pull the bike over. The blue lights come on and I am off the bike already getting my helmet off and getting out my license and registration. As he is walking up with a smile on his face, he says, " How you doing?" "Oh,...............", I say. " You 've been better, huh?'....he says.
"Well, yes, " I said. Then I proceed to explain to him what just happened, how I had just passed the other car and was wanting to get over and distance myself from the car as quickly as possible, and " you know how fast these bikes are officer" and "can you find it in your heart to give me a break tonight?" Do you know what the speed limit is here on this stretch?" he asks. " I think it's 65", i say. "55" , he says......."Oh", I say. " Do you know what I clocked you at?.............C'mere and I"ll show you......." I"M sorry officer, I don't have my reading glasses on and can't read the printout on the radar." It says 86! he says. "Oh wow" is all I can say. " Officer, I do my best to keep my distance from cars and sometimes it involves short bursts of speed to get away from them. Unfortunately for me tonight, you just happeened to be there when I had just done that. Can you give me a break tonight?
" Well, he says, normally if someone is going over 80, it's a done deal, but seeing as you did not try to run from me and I am in a good mood, I'm going to let you go with just a warning, slow it down." " Oh man, thank you officer, you are a great guy" And with a hand shake I am back on my bike and we wave to each other as I pull away..........................I love Cops.........
