OK< it's Sunday evening and I"m out for a little ride up to Jasper, Ga. in the early evening. ON my way back at about 7:45 heading south on I575, I just passed a slower moving cage and want to get back into the slow lane because traffic is behind me. Of course I want to distance myself as quickly as possible from the cage I am about to pull in front of, so I drop it down to 4th and let er rip just long enough to do just that. ( We all know how quickly that happens ) Well, no sooner do I get way ahead in a hurry and move back over to the slow lane when Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! there is Mr. Policeman with the radar gun on me............crap!

I check my mirror and I see him inching forward to get into the traffic to come and get me, but there are many cars behind me. I'm about a half a mile from a right hand turn onto Hwy 108 that will take me home. I'm thinking, perhaps he won't get into the traffic soon enough and I can go on my merry way at normal speed. Nope, I make the right hand turn and see him do the same about 100 yds behind me. I immediately signal and pull the bike over. The blue lights come on and I am off the bike already getting my helmet off and getting out my license and registration. As he is walking up with a smile on his face, he says, " How you doing?" "Oh,...............", I say. " You 've been better, huh?'....he says.

"Well, yes, " I said. Then I proceed to explain to him what just happened, how I had just passed the other car and was wanting to get over and distance myself from the car as quickly as possible, and " you know how fast these bikes are officer" and "can you find it in your heart to give me a break tonight?" Do you know what the speed limit is here on this stretch?" he asks. " I think it's 65", i say. "55" , he says......."Oh", I say. " Do you know what I clocked you at?.............C'mere and I"ll show you......." I"M sorry officer, I don't have my reading glasses on and can't read the printout on the radar." It says 86! he says. "Oh wow" is all I can say. " Officer, I do my best to keep my distance from cars and sometimes it involves short bursts of speed to get away from them. Unfortunately for me tonight, you just happeened to be there when I had just done that. Can you give me a break tonight?

" Well, he says, normally if someone is going over 80, it's a done deal, but seeing as you did not try to run from me and I am in a good mood, I'm going to let you go with just a warning, slow it down." " Oh man, thank you officer, you are a great guy" And with a hand shake I am back on my bike and we wave to each other as I pull away..........................I love Cops.........

Nice cop . My luck on sunday afternoon was not that good same thing passing a guy with a boat on 181 in burks county , nc . Saw the state tropper pass me by look in my mirror and there he goes with a u turn pulled me over .Sir do you know how fast you were going i said 55 , He said 88 in a 45 and that was the end of the connversation . Ticket for 65 in a 45 and i have to appear in COURT , What ******** court for going 20 over the limit . I thing he did say was the court date was when there is no judge in so you might just get lucky and the court fees are 130 bucks .

That doesn't seem to work in MOO-ntana.

They would rather shoot you than give you a warning. But at least its not Wyoming.

Nice story!

I have one similar, I had just purchased a 2007 Audi A4, and was driving to my parents for the Thanksgiving weekend. I was on a back-road highway (55 speed limit) and passed someone. As soon as I was side by side of the guy I was passing, a cop came over the hill from the opposite direction. I got back into my lane and as I passed him he was aggressively pointing to pull over. Immediately pulled over and was polite, etc. He asked me how fast I was going and told him I wasn't sure it was a new car and I was still getting used to it. (I had my temp plate on still) I was doing about the same 84 in a 55. He took my stuff and went back to his squad. Then he comes back out and says I have a choice. He can either write me a ticket or he can chew my ***. I tell him, "Well I think I'll take that *** chewing, Sir..."

Thanks for the tip. I rode through Jasper GA on my FJR last weekend. Rode my bike up to Chattanooga, TN because one of my friends as picking up a 2005 he just bought there and we wanted to ride home together. In the future, I'll defintely make sure I tone it down in that area. JRH08FJR

I was on the bike going home on US27. This section of US27 is normally 4 lanes with a 65 mph speed limit, but they were resurfacing and the speed limit was 55 in the construction areas.

It was around 5pm and I was sort of in a hurry to make happy hour in Okeechobee. I am cruising along at about 80ish (maybe a little more  ).

I just pass a section of single lane road (due to construction) and speed back up to 80ish.

In my mirrors I see a huge Broward County Sheriff's SUV with the pretty red and blue lights. I ease over to the far right and then the shoulder.

The Broward County Sheriff is now walking up to me and with a very stern voice says he was doing 90 and couldn’t catch me. "Don’t you know that speeding fines are DOUBLED in a construction zone!” I answer that I know it now. He then says that I was going so fast that I ran a lady off of the road. I now notice that there is a car pulled over behind his nice SUV (apparently she pull off of the road when he lit me up). He now says “90 in a construction zone… this ticket is going to be really expensive”.

Well now I know I am screwed. I am wondering what 90 in a 55 doubled means in dollars. I don’t think that I was doing 90 (but maybe 85ish). He takes my license and tells me to sit on the bike and wait.

He now goes back to the lady that pulled over behind him and she leaves. He comes back to me and asks me where I am going. I tell him that I live in Okeechobee and work in Miramar (about 110 miles each way). He says something about he lives in Loxahatchee and works in Broward County (about a 60 mile commute).

He now goes back to his SUV for about 5 minutes.

He comes back to me and asks me how long it has been since I had a ticket. I tell him it has been at least 5 years.

He hands me back my license and tells me to be careful. He then says that like me he also WORKS for a living. I thank him and tell him that I will be careful.

OK... I got good one. Just to give you some background... I speed but not to much 5mph over. Have gotten pulled over 15 times or more in the last 20 years and only had 2 tickets, this was one of them!

I was in New Mexico and going thru construction zone, limit was 45mph, no workers there and went on for 7 miles, single lane. 2 old men in seperate cars going 35mph. I was the 1st right behind them. We finally get passed the construction zone and these 2 guys get side by side and only going 45mph. Now the speed limit is 65mph!!! For 5 miles these guys stay side by side. :ranting2: I would pull up on the one in the left lane and the back off. I hate when someone gets up on my *** but I usually try to get out of someones way if they are going faster than me. The one in the left lane finally inches up and passes the other, VERY slowly! He moves over and my temper was running a little hot, along with all the other 30 cars behind us. :angry2: Once the guy gets clear I stick the accelarator to the floor and keep it there. I was in my pickup, Silverado with 350, would get up and move. I go all the way up to governer 105mph. Just as I get to it and it interupts a couple times we are coming up on a little hill. As you guessed there is the State Trooper coming the other way. I knew he tagged me and I got my anger and frustration under control. I immediately pull over, rather quickly! I knew I just bought myself a ticket :poster_oops: . I pulled over so quickly that the cop had to keep going to get passed me far enough to turn around and come up from behind. The officer comes up and asks that same question, "Do you know how fast you were going?" I laughed and said "Yes, the question is do YOU know how fast I was going." He said he clocked me at 86mph. I told him he was wrong and must have hit on one of the cars behind me. Just then, here go the old farts again side by side, with cars all ready lining up behind them, 2 of which are already honking at them to move over. I point to them and tell the cop that they are the cause! I told the officer that I was not going 86 but more like 105mph and that was because my governer would not let it go any faster. The officer laughed, so I told him my story about the old men and all that. He takes my insurance and Lic. and goes to his car. He comes back with a ticket for 69 in a 65. I was satisfied with that, it was my choice to do what I did and I own up to my choices. After he gives me my ticket, he asks "Where do you work at sir?" NM Troopers are required to ask this before writing a ticket. I told him and he says "Why didn't you tell me, I wouldn't have given you a ticket!" Professional courtesy. I am not a cop but close enough, I guess. He was totally pissed as once written they can't take it back. He messed up for not asking where I worked first. I told him it was fine, I earned the ticket and deserved getting one for the way I let my frustration get to me. He told me that I should fight the ticket and he just wouldn't show up thus I would win and not have to pay it.

A flaw I have, I am the first to tell on myself if I do something wrong. I have a standard and I hold myself to it!

Not saying I am prefect or anything like that. Just try to hold to my standard, moral and ethical.

So jesse, tell the rest of the story. How did the lottery ticket you bought on Sun do? :p

On the West coast if you even hint at asking for a warning, it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll get a ticket. Never mind warnings are pretty rare, and getting rarer with everyone's budget crisis.

One thing I like about Texas is the 70 mph speed limit on most country roads and that a warning is given for speeds less then 10 over. I've even gotten a couple warning tickets for 15 over. :D

great stories.................reading them is kinda like watching an episode of Cops , only in my mind.................no I did not buy a lotto ticket...........saving the luck for another day....

I hit the Rev limiter today. Late for work after taking to long to walk the dog. Along with detours because of all the local flooding going on around here lately. I passed two vehicles, looked down doing 102 in second gear. whoooo dang these things are quick.

fortunately no cops.

Plan B tomorrow, get up earlier.

Did someone say Wyoming?

Somewhere between Casper and Cody I got a little ticket.

We had just passed a long line of cars and trucks and was slowing down after getting back in our own lane. I see a dark colored car coming towards us. It is a half mile away and I can't tell what kind of car it is. As it passes by I can see it is a trooper so I slow down a little to about 70 mph. He turns around and turns on the lights. I am pulling over when he pulls up behind.

We were on a narrow shoulder with a six inch drop to the dirt. As he walked up he was concerned about Terri or the bike falling over, which I thought was nice. He then asked me if I knew how fast I was going and I told him I thought about 70 mph and that is the speed limit, right. Well he informed me that only the three major highways are 70 mph and I was clocked on radar at 88mph. Oops, my bad, good thing he didn't look at the 121mph on the gps.

He told us he was allowed some leeway since we were ATGATT, you know, even wearing helmets. I thanked him as he wrote me a ticket for 71mph in a 65 zone. The ticket came with a payment envelope and only cost 55 dollars. For me that was better than an *** chewing, but it was a long slow ride to Cody after that.

Good reading thread :)

The one time I thought I was toast occurred on the Trans Canadian Highway. I was pretty far west (Alberta??) cruising along at 100+ - well the speed limit was 100 (kph). It was a pretty boring riding - straight with gently rolling hills. As I came over one rise & started down the other side I could see way in the distance a car parked on the other side. Never gave it a second thought. When I got withing about 1/2 mile of it my radar dectector exploded. Without touching the brakes I rolled off the throttle & slowed to about 70. I nodded to the cop as I went by & he returned the gesture. All I could think of is that I was going to get a damn ticket in Canada, but nothing! Love them Mounities!
