Spent some time with an old friend yesterday

Beautiful day for a ride yesterday, low 50s to high 60s and sunny, so I rolled out my favorite backroad bike, the old Madura. The fall colors around here are just about at peak so I decided to ride some old favorite roads where I was hoping for some foliage pictures with a couple of cameras I needed to work with. The Madura is the smallest bike I currently have in use, so it's the best choice for parking in small spots while I'm shooting. Indian Springs Rd. looked nice

An imaginative way to recycle an old tractor into a planter, Little Cove Rd. (PA 456)

The old stone house I've been watching deteriorate on Little Cove Rd. is still falling down

The view is always great along Maddensville Rd. (PA 475) between Clear Ridge and Hustontown

Chaneysville Rd. runs between Clearville and Chaneysville, nice scenery along it

Turned left at Chaneysville to loop back to 26 along Millers Corner Rd.

Followed PA 26 down into MD where it joins scenic 40 and went up to the overlook opposite the old Town Hill Hotel and took a few looking east toward Sideling Hill

Slabbed it home from there, sorry, no food ****. Too pretty a day to stop for more than a snack; this time of the year, days like this are numbered.

The Suzuki Madura was only around 2 years as an answer to? competitor to? the Honda V65 Magna and perhaps to the V-Max. IIRC, it has hydraulic valves & hydraulic clutch as well as being shaft driven. As a Honda V-4 and Yamaha V-4 owner I noticed the other V-4.

The 700s - like mine - were only made in '85. In 14+ years of owning it, I've never seen another one, except at a Madura rally. I've seen maybe 2 or 3 1200s in my travels and a Cavalcade or two, but never another 700 so, yes, you could say they are rare. Road tests from back then claim the V Max and V65 were faster. They were well built; an owner that used to be on the Madura board claimed to have a 700 with over 250,000 miles on it. Never having seen it in person, I can't confirm that, though. I've had good service from mine, it's been a nice light machine for back roads. I've ridden it places I wouldn't have wanted to go with a bigger machine.

Chasing colors again today, supposed to be the last nice day for a while in these parts. I decided to check out the two military parks at Sharpsburg and Gettysburg, both local rides for me. Burnside Bridge at Sharpsburg is a beautiful old stone bridge

The ships bell from the USS Antietam is on display at the visitor center parking lot

When a cannon barrel is set into a base muzzle first, a general officer was killed or mortally wounded at that spot. This one is for Gen. Branch of the Army of Northern Virginia

This one is for Gen. Richardson of the Army of the Potomac

Took MD 77 through the Catoctin Mountain Park on the way to Gettysburg and wasn't disappointed

Didn't have time to do the full tour of Gettysburg, but got a couple pictures along Confederate Ave. along Seminary Ridge

Sorry, once again no food ****. If we get the weather that's predicted, these colors won't be around much longer. Don't even want to think about winter and PMS.
