Gen II here

considering the following mod, may be applicable to the Gen III

below the panels that flip out is the sub panel or actual fairing...

considering venting the sub panel with precision cut holes or vertical vents to allow engine heat through the fairing onto the legs or into the cockpit area...

when closed, the panels cover the mod, and it stops heat from hitting the legs.

I have not pulled a fairing to see what lies directly beneath this portion of the panel such as wiring or insulation, but as an experiment i did run with the right panel completely off one day and could feel a fair amount of warm air coming through the locking holes.

any thoughts or critical reviews of this idea are welcome.

Mostly frame. You don't even need to remove the lower cowling to take a peek, just remove the three fairing to frame shoulder bolts, (the ones in rubber grommets), and you can flex the fairing out a few inches with no worries.

I don't think any heat would vent through any holes one could cut in that area. Too much frame behind it. Even if heat could vent through, I don't think it would be enough to justify cutting holes in the fairing. Even with the panels out, that wouldn't direct warm air to the rider.
