Congrats to the Kentucky Kid! A well-deserved victory.

After his get-off and gutsy attempt to get back in the race, Valentino says "Today I screwed up...but you've gotta take that into account when you race motorbikes".

I was rooting for The Doctor of course but I really enjoyed watching the race. Troy Bayliss was beyond great. And this was my favorite action shot from Valencia:

I don't want to take anything away from his win but I am still waiting for when Rossi and Nicky are 1 and 2 neck and neck and battle to the finish. I have yet to see Nicky win in that situation, only because that situation never arose. Maybe next year.........

WOW !!! Aint racin' great !!! Thanks for the great pics T-rexter ! An AMERICAN Moto GP Champ again, and ya gotta give the Dr. and Senor Pedrosa as well as Troy(where the hell did that come from) Bayliss the nod this time. Man, next year is gonna be awesome ! :clapping:

Ditto to all above fantastic to see...The Kid did a great job so much pressure those last 12 laps he must heard every grind and spin coming from that motor! What's that? What's that? no wait! What's that?

Just goes to show - it ain't over till the final checkered flag waves. How relieved is Pedrosa right now?!?!?!

It's been a treat watching Nicky come up through the ranks. I first saw him racing a little 125cc 2-smoker with WERA quite a few years back and Earl hauling the bikes and the family in the white box truck.

Great to see Nicky get the Championship, & Troy Bayliss, what a ride.

Randy, it sounds like we must have been at some of the same races, I remember Earl, Nicky, & Tommy at Road Atlanta in the early 90's on the 125's, seems like only yesterday.

A good win for a great champion, Nicky deserves the title.....still...too bad Rossi fell, it would have been a much better race if he kept it out of the gravel.

just watched the race having taped it on Sunday but it was obvious from the start that Rossi did not have confidence in his tires and when it finally went out from under him it was over.

Proving once again that you do not count your wins until you cross the finish line first.

BUT, it was a great season and now the 2006 Moto GP Champion is an AMERICAN!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE KENTUCKY KID!!

WOW! ...just watched in on DVR last night. For once Rossi didn't launch very well at the start. He almost seemed too anxious to make it up after he was on his way. How many times have we seen Rossi in crazy tight situations with other riders and turns and he stays up? He washed it out on his own... unreal. And AFTER crashing out to ruin his chances of another title, Rossi rides up and congratulates Hayden at the end... that's class. I noticed Pedrosa got the hell out of the way when Nicky wanted to pass... good job. And the Duc's, holy smoke! I think it'll even be a tighter points race next year. Next year they go to the 800cc bikes... should be fun.

Watching the race I was thinking the exact same thing. I'll bet that those were the longest 12 laps in Nicky Hayden's life. What a great race.
