Our new spyder has started pissing/marking it's spot on the shop floor. Appears to be leaking at the output shaft so it's off to the dealer as soon as Patti's truck gets out of surgery. I'm looking at it as a good sign cause the FJR leaked at the output shaft when new and has been rock solid for over a 100k and 13 years. If the spyder lasts that long I probably won't need it anymore. I'll have a hot rod walker.

The dealer called today and said it's fixed. The strange part is that they were able to fix a seal leak at the transmission output by tightening the dipstick. I've always thought I was a pretty good wrench but I've never done that. The dipstick ( not to be confused with the dip **** driver ) is located on the opposite side of the machine under the seat. I'll bring it home and double check my findings with pictures before I go to war. This could be interesting.

It must be a "Spyder" thing Ray...just go with it!
BTW - Hope they did get the leak fixed!

Maybe there is some Harley DNA involved.
It's the wrong time of year for going over the pass unless really necessary so I hope this is the end of it.

A lot of times leaks aren't where the drip is....... but I hope they got it fixed. Go for a test ride to get it up to operating temp, see whatcha got when ya get home.

Right you are. The drips were about 3 feet aft of where it appeared to be leaking at the counter shaft. Oil was running back on the frame and dripping on the catalitic converter. Synthetic oil sure stinks when it burns.

Just got it home and unloaded so I'll investigate later. I did get a better explanation from the tech that worked on it that may make sense. More later.

You know, your service rep might have been throwing out bait to see what he/she could catch. (Not that I've ever done anything of the sort.) Looks like you went nibbling at it really quick!

"Why, yes sir, Mr. FJRay. These new Spyders have very high-tech seals that control our vacuum-enhanced lubrication systems. Unfortunately, your dipstick collar wasn't torqued within spec, creating a pressure leak that allowed fluid to drip from the counter shaft gasket three feet away. You're good to go, now! Happy miles!" <big salesman smile>

Hope the leak is sho 'nuff fixed.

The bait you're trolling stinks a bit. Been in this game long enough to know better.
