Spyware Alert, Guru Needed

Okay. I was surfing for some info on suspension bits for my VW Passat as it tends to 'crash' over small road imperfections. I typed in 'Bushings' into Google and it sent me straight into a porn site which is weird in that I always get I list of sites after the search. As soon as the site opened, I got the Norton warning of spyware detection. It seems to have blocked it and I've run spyware scans using both Norton and Ad-Ware and the system comes up negative, BUT....

On the lower right of the task bar, the sits a little red circle with an X and a bubble message pops up every 30 seconds warning that spyware has been installed, that I'm to click on the circle and get a spyware download from Microsoft. It leads me nowhere and I simply can't get this off the task bar!!!!

Any direction would be appreciated. Porn comments too, as I need a really good laugh - it's been a rough couple of days for the Nutster...

Spybot. I always use in conjunction with Ad-Aware and deleting Java temp file. Has worked perfectly for quite a while now.

TWN, Sounds like a drive by download.

Microsoft does have a very good Anti-Spyware program, but up to now I haven't heard of it being installed without very deliberate actions by the user. So, don't trust the icon in the sys tray. Unless you installed MS Anti-Spyware and the icon looks like a red and yellow target.

Spybot is what I used for some time and still do for 98 and earlier. Till Microsoft starts charging for their Anti-Spyware I strongly reccomend it. but don't trust that Icon, go to microsoft.com and get it there.

I no longer trust Ad-Aware because of an agreement between them and one of the ad companys to stop detecting that companys ad ware. $$ makes the market go round. I guess.

If you use the spybot, be sure to get updates EVERY time you use it.

If you use Google clicking "I feel lucky" will open the first link instead of presenting the list.

I have yet to find a single program that detects all spyware. The MS stuff is good, as are Spybot and Adaware. try all 3, if you still have issues try all other spyware scanners.

I normally run hijack this! and look at what's been installed.

If you want, get hijackthis! and post the scan report (w/o trying anything on your own) and we'll just see what we see.

Watch out for a Windows looking pop up called WinFixer. It is a Trojan type virus or worm and it will drive you nuts. Get rid of it! Do not download it.
