So we actually made it out yesterday for our first try at an SS1000. Up at 4:30, and we hit the road just after 5:00. My pre-ride report and "spot" link was posted HERE
I'm on the left...............
I was off to a great start!! As I pulled into the "Timmys", the right headlight goes out. A little push on the connector and all was good. Then I filled up to get that "first" receipt, and.............................my passport fell out of my pocket when I pulled the wallet (had no idea at the time). I was next door grabbing a quick doughnut when I realized it was gone and my frantic search began!!! Thankfully, there it was, still on the ground in front of the pumps. It could have been a short day for me.
We had a mild storm system chase us out to MTL, but thankfully we dodged the rain until after lunch. The temp for the day never went above 14C, and was about 8C when we finished.
Here was are cruising along the "Oh so exciting stretch of the 401"............... :dribble: My ability to take photos while on the bike didn't seem to improve very much as the day went on.
All I can say is I feel for you guys in MTL. I think the entire province of Quebec is under construction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a fair bit of sun on our way down to the Champlain border crossing which was nice, but our joy was quickly silenced.......................with a 40min break. I know we weren't in a hurry but it can be frustrating waiting there while the border guards open every............. single...........trunk. when we finally received our turn, the customs officer couldn't seem to understand why I wanted to ride through NY state......... for no apparent reason (well there was a reason, IBA certification!!) I wasn't going shopping, I wasn't going to visit anyone. I just needed to ride 1000 miles in one day. When I explained that to her she just looked at me and said.... "O.....Kay......" and handed back my passport.
It was a great ride down into Lake Placid, and we stopped for lunch at the local "Subway"
From then on.............it was rain basically the entire way home.
Here we are at the gas stop just outside Buffalo on the I-90. I had never ridden through rain as hard as this was between Batavia and Buffallo. It was that sideways kind...............nasty. Parts of the interstate leading to the Peace bridge were washed out and it was so windy it blew my tank bag open (I may not have zipped it closed all the way  ) and sucked out one of my Aerostich rain gloves. I know, I should have been wearing them right? Who knows where it is now.................... As I filled up with gas at this last stop, the nozzle slipped and soaked pretty my everything in fuel. The customs guard in Canada must have felt sorry for me, as she only said three words......"Are you cold??"...............and I was through.
Here's the final shot. I know we had an excessive amount of time in stops, but we were in no hurry (until the end of the ride in the rain), but while we were moving I think we were doing OK. It was a blast, and I certainly have a new appreciation for you guys/gals that ride the IBR. I can't wait to do a BBG next year!! Now I just have to get the documents mailed out.
