This event will allow me to color in two more states and I can do a SS1000. Meeting some new folks, touching base with old folks, and seeing more of this country is the best added bonus.

The plan will be to pick up 70. How I get there I am not sure as there is no real direct route from home for me. Probably head up to 68 then 79 to Washington PA. First rest stop will be Dayton, OH or just beyond. Then continue 70 to Indianapolis and turn north on 74 then 39 to 90/94. I would appreciate any feedback on whether that is a good route, traffic times around the big cities, etc. I will probably leave here around 1500 on 8/11. That will put me around Dayton in the 2300 range. Take a break there and then head the rest of the way. Feedback on the route from those that know the area will effect the second leg timing.

Your route is probably best for the SS1000. You might consider getting a witness for an END near Madison,WI as that would give you your 1k. if you are running

behind OR better yet, push on to La Crosse and have the winner of the "13 IBR sign off !

IL had many construction delays when I went through there last, not to mention the 65 MPH speed limit on their interstates.

I was thinking just that! How cool would it be to have the current champ witness my first qualifier! Hoping some of the locals can give me some insight on construction, etc. I was 140 miles shy of 1k when we stopped in Dayton last year on the way back from NAFO. We did that in 15 hours on a long stretch of the same route I have mapped.

I-70 was clear of any major delays last month when I rode it. I-74 was my concern, PM TriggerT and he could probably fill you in.

I hope to stop by CFO myself, but it would be just a drop in as I have a family reunion to attend in Iowa.

I checked on you dropping down to I-64 and then west for better scenery, but it added about 100 miles on to your route.

Most states DOT web sites have good info on current construction. I know around the Mpls. St. Paul metro the trend is to have overnight and weekend closures rather than restrictions during the day. Do a final check just before you leave.

I have a set up a spot link for anyone to follow if you so desire: https://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=77dd5200ff574200c

Does anyone know how I could get in touch with Derek? I was wondering if he would be around Thursday afternoon. It would be awesome to get him to witness the completion of my SS1K. If not I will need someone there to witness for me. I plan on leaving VA at 1500 on 9/11 to arrive sometime between 1300 and 1500 on 9/12.

Intech,

I live near the Illinois traveler's rest stop on I-39 that's 25.4 miles north of Interstate 80. I you want, I can meet you there and keep you company going from there to LaCrosse. It's just under four hours from that rest stop to LaCrosse without stops. We can stop in Madison if you want to get your ticket punched there if you like (I'm not qualified to certify your ss1000).

That would be great. Would welcome the company. May be a couple others joining for the ride in. I posted my spot link earlier, so you can keep track of me.

...forwarding to Illinois State Police. Escort needed.

Intech,

How current are the spotwalla updates? Don't want to miss you at the rest stop. From your ETA for LaCrosse you could be pulling into my local rest stop anywhere between 0800 and 1100.

Most of us Illinois riders take the slow, but more fun back roads up to LaCrosse but I'm willing to do the superslab route with you. If you aren't too tired we could take the backroads after getting your ironbutt ride certified in Madison. Whatever you are up to.

Wheatie-

You are qualified, along with at least one other person.

(Just do a little over the speed limit and I am sure Illinois will assist you with the other witness) ......... and even more paperwork for documenting your ride! LOL
