I have been wanting to do an Iron Butt ride for years, but just now committed to actually doing it. I spent hours planning my route to make sure I had the 1000 required miles.

So after all the planning, came July 11th at 0409 hours. This was my official start time printed on my gas reciept. I documented my mileage and took off.

I dressed for what the temp was going to get up to during the day, not what it was at 0400. It got down to 59 degrees in the mountains and I had to make a quick stop and put the liner in my jacket.

Before long it warmed up alot and it was hot. I made my fuel stops quick and concise.

A huge mental milestone on the ride was hitting the 500 mile mark. I knew it was all down hill from there.

At 715pm I arrived in Tampa and got my final gas reciept.

Well I did it....now which Iron Butt ride to do next? I am thinking about around the Great Lakes in under 100 hours.

While in Florida I did a little riding before heading back to Virginia.....

This Iron Butt ride was a huge personal goal for me. Everyone I told about it thought I was crazy for even thinking about doing such a ride. Now I just have to wait for my ride to be approved and get my IBA number.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.....I test rode a Goldwing while in Tampa. I can't lie....I loved it. If I was single and/or had the funds I would have a new bike in the garage. I see a Goldwing somewhere in my future, just not sure when.

A big congratulations from the left coast. My first SS1K changed my life: a new hobby, new friends, going places I could have never dreamed of when I thought 600 miles a long day. Also a new way to spend way too much money :dribble: Enjoy the ride, my friend.

I'm planning the same trip from Houston!!! Was going to do it over the July4th holiday but caged it instead!! Glad I did, the traffic and weather was horrible, didn't look like many people were shying away from the emerald coast to me!!!! Anything you wish you would have done different? Congratulations on your accomplishment!!!!

" Anything you wish you would have done different? "

I can't really think of anything I would of done different. I had a solid route and when all was done I still had almost 9 hours left. I guess I could of tried to do the Bun Burner 1500 while I was doing it, but I needed to get to Tampa and without a Russell Saddle was ready to dismount.

As much as it sucks, I made great time by riding nothing but interstate slab.
