I was just poking around a little, and I thought I would take a peek at the ST1300 owners site. I don't know, maybe it's me, but it sure seemed a little tacky. I don't mean to be critical, but it sure made me really appreciate how well thought out, tastefull and well presented this site is. Of course maybe it's just different strokes for different folks. But the "hottie" contest they were running? Man, some of the contestants. Somebody throw her a towel. A "hottie" contest? I could see it on a Harley site, maybe.. But on an ST1300 site?

Different strokes as they say.....be warned though....some of those past winners now own FJR's  so you might get some descension from the masses  (personally just tell them to look @ scab's signature)....

Speaking of ST1300's, it's kind of curious why the ST1300 doesn't seem to get much play from the rags, good, bad or otherwise. I wonder what the deal is.

Not to worry my friend when the 07 ST1300 hits the dealers you'll here plenty about it. When the 06 FJR came out it was the bee's knee's because of the reported changes all for the better. The St has remained unchanged since 03 so when it does debut with all the rumored changes people will ask the same of the FJR. It's a pissing contest between Yamaha and Honda with Kawasaki waiting in the wings to blow the top off of the Sport Touring world with the ZZR1400 if it actually comes to past, which is good for us nothing makes a better bike than competition between the bike makers, so wait until Sept. 6 you'll here about the ST again.

I had a ST1300.Hated it. HOT! And seemed big.Sold it & went back to my beloved ST1100. I talked to a Honda rep about when Honda would fix it.He said they'd make'm 'as is' thru 06'. Wouldn't surprise me if the 07' is a 1900 cc or something equally wacko. We need a Kaw 1400 like we need a hole in the head---my opinion only. I'd love to see a ST1100 in 07' that's 50+ lbs lighter and as cool and effeiciently running as ever. Maybe fuel injected too.Be a hellofva bike. Bigger ain't better in my book.

I spent a lot of time on an 04 ST1300 last year but found it much less exciting than the FJR's. My biggest problem was with it's weight especially around town and stop and go traffic. It was just too tall and top heavy to be enjoyable and not nearly sporty enough for my liking, ...you might even say boring, but it did offer good protection from the elements and a lot of storage room for gear. I think the FJr's carry their weight somewhat lower making them handle better in general. From a technician's point of view the FJR also has a much better, more powerful engine and smoother operating transmission.

The ST's slightly anemic V4 engine made a horrendous whining noise all the time. That's all you ever heard until going full throttle between 4 to 8 grand when the intake growl overrode the whine. That made the bike sound like it was going fast anyway. For a big bike I think it handled okay but I was always afraid I was going to scrub off some serious stuff if I pushed her too hard, so I really never did. It's not a sport bike for sure, and if I wanted a touring Honda I'd get a Wing or an Accord. I still have the new Accord.

The other thing that folks can't seem to grasp from me is that even compared to the sport style seat on my 06 FZ1 the big Honda's stock seat was terrible. It constantly forced me toward the tank until I adjusted the height to tilt slightly more level. That was some better, but the seat was still uncomfortable beyond about 50 miles for me and raising the seat made it almost impossible to flatfoot at a standstill. Also, the foot pegs were directly in the way of my legs trying to reach the ground. Putting your legs down either in front of or behind the pegs was very awkward.

Oh yeah, ...and I forgot to mention the heat, but it felt pretty good during night rides.

The Honda is a good bike by all modern standards but it lacks the right stuff to be great at anything. That is why Honda is coming out with another revised version.

I heard rumor a quieter more powerful V 6 engine is in the works. Acura maybe?

I agree with your comments about the Kaw 1400. What for? I was talking to one of my friend's at the local Yam. Suz and Kaw dealership. He said the Kaw ZZ1400 was designed as a Busa killer. A Busa killer? Again...what for? How much is enough? When does one get or feel the need to outrun a Hayabusa. Where do you do something like this? More importantly, WHY would you want to do something like this? I know, I know, I ust be getting old.

The FJR tops out at 160 mph. 0-60 3.2 (I'm guessing here). It's comfortable for long distance riding and it's rock solid stable at the speeds it's capable of. For a sport touring bike, how much faster do you really need to go?

Just registered & logged in... The front page is way busy, sort of like when a web coder has a customer that says "more columns, more pictures, make it look real busy"

Other than that, the forum section looks pretty normal. Still looking for the 'Hotties', whatever they are...

(edit)

Oh, it's a poll...

You do know about the "Man ****" contest at WFO right?

Shoot! I thought this was the latest ST1300 bashing thread.

Not poking fun at the fat bikers. That was over on the Harley thread! :p

I've ridden a couple of times with a friend that has a st1300, great looking bike. Just not my cup of tea. We were both able to negotiate the corners, go real fast at times and we both made it home. He is very happy with his and I with mine. Both bikes should be capable of doing hundreds of thousands of miles. Different strokes for different folks. Thank goodness there are so many options available.

I dunno. It really is a great bike. For me the feejer was just a little greater, but I did enjoy my limited saddle time on both of Honda's ST bikes (1100 & 1300). I really don't have anything negative to say about the ST1300 at all. I bought the harder-to-get Feejs over the way-easier-to-get ST1300 simply because are just more positives on the Feej.

*shrugs* It's a good bike.

I've written off kawasaki as a future provider of a bike for chornbe. As much as I like the looks of the new 1400, after the way that company treated me with an obvious oversight in their workmanship and assembly of a bike, then they and the dealer ganged up on me to blame the issues on me, Big Green can hang comfortably on my nutsack for the foreseeable future.

I heard the ST won "Ugliest Muffler Award" 3 years running. Now thats legacy.

Sounds painful as hell.
