After two years of soul-searching, researching, and testing the market I decided to open a business offering accounting, payroll, and CFO-management services. I am still employed as a Comptroller and hope to be full-time in the business before the end of this year. I have 2 clients and discussions are underway to get 2 more clients this week. If anyone here has a business or personal matter that could use my expertise then I would be glad to talk with you.

Even though I'm in the Denver area all of the work can be done remotely. If you know of people in Denver that could use a highly-experienced professional then a referral would be greatly appreciated.

Next year I begin studying for the CPA exam.

Here is my (very basic) website:

My FJR is for sale in the Sale forum. Won't have time to ride it.

Best of luck on your new future! Hope it is very successful.

Don't know where you're coming from to this business. If it is from the corporate world to "self employed", I would seriously consider not selling your bike or giving up your hobby. In 2002, both my wife and I where forced into the self-employment (always wanted to, but wasn't brave enough to give out the "assured" high-tech $$). We started the current business out of our home. We quickly learned that we needed get away from work and have time for ourselves. Our bikes were/are that. If we get "annoyed with work", we get on the bikes and go for a ride - definitely makes you focus on something else than work. Just my 2cents!!

Just a suggestion from a guy in the payroll business. I would partner with another small business that does payroll and pass leads between the two. Payroll is below your expertise and requires a weekly/biweekly commitment. In my business I would not refer a client to you because we are in competition (payroll), and I do not do accounting. Good luck.

Not sure if you are looking for comments on the web page or not, however I will comment

You have the following at the bottom of your home page. Not sure if I would have a negative statement about not being able to accomplish a particular task so boldy stated. If you find your self in this position, then a discussion with your client would be in order, but don't make the statement right up front. My .02

Tax services available depending upon complexity of work. We work with seasoned CPA's that have the necessary experience and expertise to handle items above our capabilities.

Been an accountant all my life, good luck with your endeavor. In todays world of corporate accounting it is probably best to rely on yourself for your income than a corporation. Good luck with the CPA exam, you will need it for your credentials, even if you don't certify statements.

Great advice guys. I did change wording on the website - I'm very receptive to feedback on it. I do want to keep the FJR but to let go of the financial cost right now would be very helpful. In regards to the monthly acctg/payroll that I would prefer to sub that as it is below my expertise. The website registration links were helpful and are completed.

Thanks for the feedback. Hopefully I can be full-time by end of this year. This is my goal.
