The joint here locally said they cannot figure out how to get the alternator whine out of my 2005 FJR with the Autocom Pro M 1? I am trying to run the Escort 8500 through it an utilize the communication and music and can't get diddly accomplished from here?

Anyone know a great bike audio joint out here in the western USA that I can haul this bike to fer some magic? I will stick it in the trailer and get it to someone if there is anyone to get it to that can make this sumbitch work? It always kicked butt on the K1200LT and now it is just noise. The Autocom works great with no noise but soon as ya add an accessory it starts howling.

I have a 2005 with Autocom Pro and no whine or anything. Have my Ipod hooked to it and my garmin 2010 and everything is very clear.

Have never hooked a radar detector to it but it should work. I had to try two different cables to get my Autocom to work when I first got it. Called Autocom support and they figured out the problem over the phone and send me a new cable free of charge.

Thats all I can suggest.

If you have whine, there are three major reasons - and many minor ones (the top 3 in no particular order):

- You are taking the ground points from different points on the bike and this causes a 'ground loop' where, essentially the wiring carries some of the current used to feed the bits and pieces on the bike. ALL accessories should have their negative connections taken from the same place - the battery, or an auxiliary fuse block make excellent tie points.

- You might be picking up the whine inductively - if the wiring is routed close to unfiltered power leads.

- There is a lot of high frequency energy in the DC power. Use of a choke (that you can buy from Radio Shack) will eliminate (or at least reduce) the amount of whine in the power system.

If you run the Autocom from a 9 volt battery does the noise go away? This implies a possible ground loop or noisy power scenario.

Any decent stereo shop ought to be able to help.

I've fought this problem for a couple of years, off and on, on my Goldwing. A choke coil did no good whatsoever. Ground loop isolators are expensive potential fixes. I spent the day yesterday (yes, the entire day, including not one but three trips to the local Shack for bits and pieces...I'm a special needs farkler) hooking up a fused power block and doing a test install of the new Autocom on the FJR. I'm all done save the permanent mounting and grounding the Autocom. I intend to run a ground wire back to the battery.

I learned to live with the problem on the Wing when I got tired of the hassle of removing the seat to get at the parts.
