My FJR came with some stickers where the bags mount. Are people keeping these or taking them off? I usually take all of this stuff off. Eventually it gets old and cracks and leaves a residue ont he paint.

It's a bit challenging to mount the bags perfectly every time without the hooks of the bags touching the paint near the holes on the bike, more so if I or the bags are loaded. Leave 'em on for awhile. If you perfect mounting the bags without touching the paint, yank 'em before they turn to crap.

The clear 3M style tape is part of the sidecase kit. When the dealer installs the mounting hardware and the locks, they apply the protective film. I don't remember hearing of anyone having problems with them yellowing or cracking, and the Yerps have been riding the FJRs since '01 (?). I wonder if the residue on the paint will look worse than the scratches (The FJR being known for "soft" paint.)?

It's your bike, so take them off if you want.

fjrchik, :dribble:

Don't put them on, they discolor and don't look that good when aged. Because of these reports early on, I have an 03, July 21, 2002, I left mine off and have no visible scratches, Some of the small ones that hapened during the experimentation proces of putting them on and off buffed out.

Aha, one of the "old pros" has spoken. Of course, on one of the Classic Liquid Silver FJRs, this would show up rather badly. :D
