I have used the stock Yamaha trunk on a few occasions but never paid much attention to the proper torque specs. I just looked them up and they read 23 Nm. I have the mount very snug but no clicky on the torque wrench. Any need to be that specific with the mount. I'm a little nervous to apply much more torque to the plastic base.

As another Canadian with an FJR, years ago before I ever used a torque wrench for anything other than head bolts, I always depended on feel. Never stripped a bolt and never broke any plastic parts (and I don't recall anything coming loose or falling off) [There's a long story to go with this but that's for another day].

Usually, if you hold your ratchet by the head itself rather than by the handle, you'll often come up with a decent tightening torque (for 6mm) without stripping or breaking anything. Just kind of a 'rule of thumb' which should keep you relatively safe if you don't feel the need for a torque wrench. Also, I often tighten in little twists rather than one all out effort, judging my progress along the way.

FWIW.

My rule of thumb is when I think it needs one more pull I stop. In my experience when I give the extra pull is when stuff breaks. I'm such a gentle guy.
