First off i'm very happy to have a dealer who gave me a loaner while my FJR is in for service, most don't.

My ride for the next day or two; 2006 Roadliner? (Barkoliner)

If i ever get to a point where i look at a bike like this & say, yep i gotta have that!

Someone please shoot me!

Stratoliner:

airflow over windscreen makes you a bobble head

airflow over legs wants to knock your legs off the boards

vibration of the engine is reminiscent of a 1930 tractor

Foot boards scrape TOO early.

I love mine...just kidding, I don't and won't own one, but I rode 100 miles on one and would again if I needed a loaner! Better than a cage and smooth as silk compared to some older star models

Sorry, I guess this is a Roadliner, no windshield.

"Reminiscent of a 1930 tractor" You nailed it!

New as in 05. Yamaha created the new Royal Star Tour Deluxe for 05. It is a stripped down Venture now. A totally different bike than the old Royal.

All the Royals were V4s and basically stripped down Ventures.

Coming off the FJR into a cruiser was pretty hard, but I wanted a more relaxed riding position. After test driving the new RSTD, I was sold. It pulls kind of like the FJR (similar torque) & about 78 rwhp at 7,000 rpm's. Yeah it's a heavy beast (over 800lbs), but is extremely stable due to it’s weight, handles just fine as long as the road doesn’t get too squidly and the automatic cruise control is wonderful. The V-4 is smooth (probably the best engine Yamaha ever made) and sounds great too. It comes with the 5-year factory warranty and is the most comfortable bike I’ve ever ridden, many say even better than the Wing. The stock seat plain ass sucks and the stock exhaust is too quite. Get a pair of Road King pipes ($25) EBay and the V-4 sounds so much better. Sure I don't get that FJR performance, but a buds got $3,500 into his Road Glide motor and we run about the same. :p Overall, I have no regrets in switching to the RSTD. What a great touring bike!

I would consider a RSTD, but would have a hard time convincing myself that I'd like it more than a GoldWing. I wish that V-4 was in a frame that supported more lean-in. That said, I have heard from RS owners that their engines are bulletproof, and one guy that I ran into Colorado had over 140k miles on his with no problems.

Yeah, those GL1800’s are purtty nice bikes. Personally, I felt the seating to be a little cramped for my tastes, but they definitely run stronger than the Yammie.

Over at the Ventures board, I've heard 200,000+ miles on the Ventures with no major problems? An older crowd tends to buy em (50’s & 60’s). Guess I’m in the ballpark age group now. Even though hardcore Harley guys won’t consider buying one, they sure think it’s a Cadillac ride & so do I. I've never been into peg scrappen anyways. :p
