All,

I am working with Cdogman (he lives in Salt Lake) and other Utah residents to create suggested ride routes. In addition to routes, I am working on creating maps that show points of interest and good places to stop for food, gas, historical points of interest, views etc.

As every ride route is likely to spawn discussion, I suppose it would be best to create a thread per ride. I want to post the product here in draft all the way to final form to get input.

Like in Reno, we won't be arranging rides and managing them. This will simply be informative and riders can arrange things as they see fit. This was pretty popular at Reno and the initial ride plans look pretty cool. More will be coming. Any "gotchas" that more experienced staff can relay to me in regards to this work?

You may wish to frame rides within KINDS, like a fast and furious ride out west, or a twisty one, or a sweepery one, or a NP one, etc etc. So many good roads, you have your work cut out for you.

A week or two before the event feel free to PM me with what the final routes are going to be and I'll print them out on 11"x17" at the office. We had tacked them up or set them on tables and found people referring to them fairly regularly.

BTW, I like this forum exchange much better than an e-mail listserv. It's more convenient and easier to reference. I hope everybody else likes it too.

Yea, this works good Matt. Does it add to my post count?<G>GZ
I actually thought about that when I created the thread and yes your post does count. I figure organizing an FJR event is about as FJR related as it gets.

However, an industrious user may be out there stalking you, me, or members of this thread! They could spot our post counts going up, but wonder why they can't see posts. It's your duty if called out to disavow any knowledge of a conspiracy (although you clearly now are part of one) and remember your oath to TWN and Warchild to be part of this shindig.

*Oaths vary with individual and we'll presume only Skooter has sore knees and a worsened overbite.

Hanging with Barney Fife has it's consequences......

THAT would be a scary user indeed!

Yep! Good suggestion! I was going to focus on ride length and level of difficulty, your breakdown will help. Thanks.

Here were the breakdowns that I was thinking about:

Mostly Riding:

- Half Day

- Whole Day

Mostly Sightseeing:

- Half Day

- Whole Day

Under each category above:

Highly technical: Very twisty, elevatng hairpins, varying radius turns, narrow roads, etc.

Medium Effort: Some twisties, sweepers and straights

Easy: Slab and straights (mostly)

I have yet another WFO-6 attendee who putting together some ride routes.

He is about as well-versed on Utah roads as you can get, and he is well-known to beeroux, Iggy and I... none other that veteran Endurance Rider and multiple podium finisher in the Utah 1088 Rally, Mr **** Peek ("GoFar" on the forum).

And **** happens to live in... Park City!!!

He is also serving as our Rallyshirt and Swag Recipient, much like Brian Roberts did for us last year in Reno.

You got Peek on board?

****, your job is done.<G>

That boy knows every road pretty well but he won't brag about knowing. Humble guy fa sho.

Good on ya Dale, thats a score.

Very good! Now we know we can recommend good adventures.

Here is what Cdogman came up with. I was going to start with these rides, and build them out. Perhaps Cdog's work can provide a good starting point:

OK Here are some snap answers. Park city is a good launching point for 2-/300 mile rides. Longer rides have a great deal of straight roads to got to alot of the nice rides. But, Here are rides that I KNOW are great. Clicky

This is the Alpine loop, up a couple canyons crossing in front of salt lake on the return leg. THis is one of the most spectacular rides around. Pretty short at 166 miles but deceiving. Features here. Starting up the Alpine loop (I have the bikes running backwards from normal for a reason) you go past the "Sundance Ski Resort" that with reservations, has the absolute finest buffet sunday brunch to be found on the planet. This is the ski resort owned by Robert Redford. The ski lifts can be ridden up to the top for scenery and then back down.

This Road on the loop section is VERY twisty, so much to that it is not a FAST road. It is narrow, scenic, great for a relaxing ride. Lots of stops. The canyons go to Snowbird, Alta, and a few other Major ski resorts. Short little jumps up and down the canyon. These canyon are fun to ride and can be nice and easy, or you can go a bit nuts. All roads are in good shape on this route

Bryce and escalante Canyons. This goes through Torrey Utah and the route from ther and the loop at the bottom are some of the number one rated touring roads in the country. The down side is to get there is a rather long ride. Making it fast requires interstate riding. Taking you time as mapped amkes it a very long ride. The scenery it first rate on the loop. This is about 682 Miles. It will take a good 12 hours with very little stopping

Clicky

This is Flaming Gorge. 436 Miles about 9 hours. SOme straight roads, Some curvy roads, some desert riding and some mtn riding. Not hard riding. Flaming George is worth a look.

Clicky

This is to Moab, Spefically, Island In the Sky. Nothing compares for stark desert beauty. The ride is 511 Miles, about 10 hours. with a faunt along the River as part of the return ride. Much of the trip to and from will be fairly straight. The nugget is the sights around Moab.

Clicky

This is the Nebo Loop. This is a sporty little ride, 195 Miles, gonna take about 4.5 hours. There are many little side adventures (with the Alpine loop ride too) that do not show at the resolution my mapping software is capable of. This is a fun ride, incredible scenery. This an dthe Alpine loop are ridden by the locals several times a year for a "Few housrs away" from the house

Clicky

This is Park City, Mirror Lake Cut through Wyoming, and loop over the top. This is a good ride for people that want to stretch the legs on the FJR. The twisties are perfect in many places for some decent 7/10th riding. The added feature is the crossing over Hwy 80 at mid point going north. For those weary at that point they are only 1.25 hours shot down the freeway to the hotel. Others can continue back via the rest. The scenery is awesome. The return leg is not at resolution but is comes down "East Canyon: a favorite for locals to run their two wheeled toys at 7/10th (or more, many crashes from Sport Riders going to fast)

Anyway, these are my snap answers. Let me know if this is like what you are looking for, or too long, or too short, or??? Lemme know

Looks fun! the first link didn't work for me, but the others did.
