So I am getting the maps from Utah locals, writing the descriptions might not be my forte (since I don't live there) so I'm largely just BS'ing and the rides put together deserve more than that...that said...here we go. Please PM comments and I'll edit based on PM's. Let's keep this thread fairly clean.

Alpine Loop, Big and Little

Cottonwood Canyons

153 Miles 3 Hrs 58 Min

Ride Description:

Expect a very full day of breathtaking views, incredible mountain roads, with time to stop and enjoy. Take the famous "Alpine Scenic Loop", stop by Timpanogos Cave and take a ski lift up a mountain. This ride offers a huge variety of activities and fun for those that want to stop and see Utah up close. This ride focuses on the Northern Mountains or Wasatch-Cache range and offers a lot to see with time to see it.

If you choose to stop for Timpanogos Cave there is a tour here for the taking. Timpanogos Cave National Monument sits high in the Wasatch Mountains. The cave system consists of three spectacularly decorated caverns. As visitors climb to the cave entrance, on a hike gaining over 1,000 feet in elevation, they are offered incredible views of American Fork Canyon. This is clearly one of the premier caves open to the public in the United States. https://www.nps.gov/tica/

The Sundance Ski Resort has a KILLER Brunch. You MUST HAVE RESERVATIONS or you will be waiting forever. It is about 20 bucks a plate and an experience worth having if you have an extra 20 bucks, this is pretty fancy chow. You can also ride the Ski lift up the mountain side and take pictures for about 8-9 bucks, again worth it. The lift will bring you back down as well.

Directions:

Turn left onto Sidewinder / Turn right onto Kearns Blvd

2.6 Miles

Take the US-40 E ramp to the right towards Heber City

14.0 Miles

Pass through Heber City and continue to the junction of Hwy 189 and 40. Take 189 (toward Orem, Provo) MARK YOU ODO READING!!

14.8 Miles

Turn Right on “Alpine Scenic Loop” or also marked “Sundance Ski Resort”

This road is a lot of 1st and 2nd gear riding. Beware of oncoming cagers. There are spots that are pretty narrow and many folks enjoying this route

LOCALS NOTE: You will be entering the Wasatch National Forest. There will be a pay toll booth a few miles up the Road right after the Sundance Ski Resort. You can pay a few bucks or say to the Ranger “We are just passing through to Alpine and are not stopping” and you do not have to pay. 25.9 Miles >> Preview

There is a fork in the road. (Hwy 144 goes to the Right) Your instinct will be to bear right, GO LEFT. If you miss this one no worries. The wrong one (to the right) is a killer ride too and dead ends in about 7-8 miles and you will turn around and have just added a few nice twisties to the ride. No worries

5.1 Miles

LOCALS NOTE: Timpanogos Cave. You may continue on or stop. There is a tour here for the taking. It costs a few bucks but is incredible. You hike up a Mtn about ½ mile then through a cave for about a mile. It is a guided tour. If caves interest you then this is one of the premier ones in the country. No turns, just a note

I rode up what you're describing in 2005 with my friend from Provo as a tour guide. We didn't end up going to the caves, but did go to Cascade Springs and stood 30 feet from a moose. Incredible scenery up there! Great job for the first ride.

You think you'll be able to do maps? If you don't have a program.....like Streets and Trips or comparable...let me know and I could probably send you a bootleg CD ;)

So you all know: Cdogman is creating these rides that I'll post in this section. If you could all send a nice thank you PM to him that would be cool.

We have maps. I have these files in .pdf and .doc files with overall map images and close in images for each turn. I don't have GPS maps, and frankly, I don't know what mapping software Robin (Cdogman) used...yet. I'll ask.

If I could have email addresses, I'll send the files to whoever updates the WFO website: Dale???

Thanks

Cool! Just making sure you have all the tools ....which sounds good. I'm hopeful Warchild will shoot you an e-mail to get files to him for the website.

And yes, I need maps/directions that a Streets and Trips (or similar program) spits out.... usually in a PDF.

Take a look-see here at last year's format; these are how I would like to have them, if possible: https://www.fjrtech.com/wfo-5/rides.cfm

The Route and Directions (now re-uploaded on that page!) are done in PDF. This particular set was rendered through the DeLorme Map-n-Go mapping software (don't know if it had a PDF export capability, or not.) I'm pretty sure Microsoft Streets and Trips does. In any event, each ride is a three-part description. So using the example of the "Three Pass Rides" from WFO-5, it would look like:

1) Verbal description:

Three Passes Ride: 323 miles. This route is loaded with big sweepers, tight twisties, stomach-churning dropoffs, steep grades and spectacular scenery. Leaving Reno, go south to Minden, then up CA88 and over Carson Pass, then transit to CA4 and back over Ebbetts Pass. Then finish with a run over Monitor Pass before running up 395 back to Reno. Brave souls and good navigators may try to find their way from West Point to Avery on the back roads and eliminate the hassle of CA49. If you have time at the end of the day, go back over Monitor Pass and through Markleeville to CA88 and back to Minden in order to ride Monitor Pass both ways.
2) Specific Directions: https://www.fjrtech.com/wfo-5/Rides/ThreePassesDir.pdf

3) Specific Map: https://www.fjrtech.com/wfo-5/Rides/ThreePassesDir.pdf

It might be tough getting the exact format that you are looking for, but I will massage it as close as possible. I can work with office products and create .pdf's

Robin (Cdogman) says:

Another thing. I have all of these rides in my “MapSource” Program. I can make them available to those with Garmin GPS and Mapsource. They can then DL them directly into their GPS as well. I can even post these on the Website for Download <<he has his own webiste that he will upload these to and give us the links>>

Dale can put them on his site too for links if he desires. <<This would make it pretty easy for you in terms of directions and maps>>
