I am looking to get a pair of summer riding pants. I had looked at the Scorpion Deuce pants. I have the Scorpion Hat Trick jacket (phantom), not the flashy ones, and I really like it. If anyone has experience with these pants or any other summer pants, I welcome your opinions.

I would like to stick with textile pants, possibly a little mesh for cooling, but not too much. Would also like armor in the hips and knees.

I use the Tourmaster Caliber pant, year round. You can leave the side zippers open a bit (top and bottom) and also fold over the the side gauntlets to channel air by the opened zipper area. They work better for me in the summer then the winter.

Good luck in your quest

I ride in Tour Master Venture Air, mesh overpants. Knee armor, but hips are foam pad. They make an identical pant in textile rather than mesh, just called Venture. Both come with a waterproof windbreaker liner and a quilted thermal liner, which makes them year-round where I live, having used them down to 25 degrees. Still wearing them after one 30mph low-side, scuffed but undamaged.

Here we go a-gain.....
You could try riding pants site:fjrforumcom

OR...armored riding pants site:fjrforum.com

BUT.....

That wouldn't be near as much fun as watching this thread unfold and reading some of the answers.
I could do a search like you said but if everyone including myself just search the site then it might as well not be a forum and just be here for informational purposes only. I'm sure almost all topics have been covered at one point or another. Maybe I would like a fresh perspective on things, not to mention manufacturers are always changing or bringing out new gear.

Okay....

I wear Cycleport Air Mesh Kevlar Pants. They match my jacket.

I wear them in Summer temps over 100 degrees, with walking shorts underneath. I wear them commuting and day riding in Winter temps in the mid 30s with only their rain liners to act as a windbreaker over my jeans. I've worn them in the rain (9 of 14 days on our Canada trip last June) with the rain liners in them with no leaks. They are the only riding pants I wear and recommend.

You can try all the others you want but I've suffered a low-speed low-side and the zippers on the FirstGear over pants I was wearing failed. Had I been going faster than 15 mph I was traveling in a left turn lane, I would likely have had severe road rash.

I was wearing my Cycleport gear when I crashed my KLR @ 45 mph. No road rash, no skin injuries, I was seriously bruised around the armor (you could see a perfect outline of the armor). There was no damage to any of the riding clothing (helmet notwithstanding) except where the EMTs cut the jacket off.

I still wear the same air-mesh jacket and pants. They're not for looks, they're for my protection should the unfortunate become a reality.

Buy the best you can afford.......Cycleport.

Buy the best, even if you think you can't afford it.....Cycleport.

The results....priceless!

Agree. I have both of these. Caliber for winter time, but too hot for our summers here, they are solid and no mesh, therefore no air flow...but great in the winter. My Venture Air pants have always been used in the summer...made with mesh material...plenty of air flow...plus two liners...one to keep you dry and one to keep you warm when needed. But I don't use the liners in the summer. Venture Air provides great air flow while riding, yet you have the knee and hip protection armor. The hip armor may not be armor but just a dense foam.

You get what you pay for so good luck with your market research. I guess if I was going to get just one pair, it would definitely be the TM Venture Air, but there may be something better.

There's lots of great riding clothes brands out there, so have fun shopping for your pant.

Cycleport here too.

And don't worry about the folks that try to belittle posters by telling them to search for this or that. They seem to take it upon themselves to make sure everyone is as perfect as they are.
Is that really your opinion of me?

I'm far from perfect and readily admit to that fact.

I do my best to help all members new and old.

I don't tell people what to search, I DO the search and post the links.

I also realize that a thread like this one will not reveal salient facts but merely everyone's (including my own) opinion about what riding apparel is best.

I've crash tested my riding apparel and know how protective it is. How about yours? What is YOUR personal experience with your equipment in a crash environment?

I also published on this forum exactly what happened and the reasons, taking full responsibility for the conditions and danger I placed myself in.

How dare you even think, let alone publish your opinion about my motives or what drives me to post what I do. You don't know me or the person I am, my core principles of life or how I treat my family, friends, members of the riding community in general or members of the FJR forum or other motorcycling websites to which I belong.

How dare you, sir!

Duece pants rock! Have them, love them

Same here. I've said it before and I'll say it again (you get nothing for nothing, expect it when..) the most versatile jacket and pants I've ever owned. I've worn them below freezing to nearly a 100F. The pants are cut for big assed riders though and the velcro waist adjusters, while appearing substantial, aren't really - I had to bring them to a seamstress for reinforcing.

Wore my First Gear stuff out over 5 years so now go with Tourmaster

Caliper for Winter

Venture Air for Summer

In all my pants with knee armor, I've added First Gear hip CE armor in the hip pocket on the outside of the foam pads

All my gear is purchased from New Enough and try to plan to purchase in Winter (off season months) with a 10% coupon

I have FirstGear HT Air pants. I've sucessfully conducted an "asphalt test" at a pretty good velocity. They held up well and I'm still using them. I had added hip armor. Even so, most of the outside of my upper leg was black and blue, but no road rash.

The pants are cut for big assed riders though
Tour Master sells the pants by waist size, but has tall, normal, and short for each, to accomodate different inseams or butt broadness. Suffice to say, I wear a short in some size with more than one but less than 4 X's.

BMW Summer II's. Very protective, affordable, high tear resistance on fabric. You can check it out on their web site. These are really comfortable pants year 'round.

Nothing more to add on the the TOURMASTER VENTURE AIR pants, but that I wear them and agree with all the comments. Great pants for a great price. Paid around $160 for them.
