I posted last week about my friend who owns a Yamaha dealership commenting on the shortage of Yamaha Sportbikes due to the demand for hybrid car engines that Yamaha manufacters in the same plants.

Well, now the lastest scoop is....the demand for the hybrid engines is greater than anticipated & now the production on sportbikes is set back at least 90 to 120 days!

Man, I almost put my 05 up for sale to get an 06! Sure glad I didn't! :eh:

Wellll, every year its something that delays the proposed delivery dates, so why not! Man, the waiter thread ought to be really long this winter. :dribble:

Again, I'd be skeptical. Every year at least three or four stories start circulating about months-long delays in next year's production, and every year the bikes arrive generally when Yamaha said they would.

After reading of this "delay" early this morning I called the owner of the local Honda/Yamaha/Suzook emporium to have him ask his Yamaha rep about this. He didand just called me before he closed tonight. The dealer stated that he trusts his rep and he was told the following: a. rep has NO knowledge of any delays such as the first message stated. b. 119 '06 FJRs were ordered in the USofA the first day...mine among them. At this point the rep believes March delivery should certainly be met for the first day bikes and then some.

Phew...itzz gunna be long enuff til March don't really need any false alarms. Tic,tic,tic.....DFO

The latest scoop I heard is the 2006 FJR engine will be a hybrid, but not in the usual sense. They're hoping the AE model will be reaching 75% electric to 25% gas. Thus the delay in not promising more than they can deliver, on time.

Meanwhile, ANOTHER secret is coming out: the '05 (second run) was their first test of this technology. Just listen to that engine and check out their gas mileage. Verrrry interesting. B)

And just whose engines would these be? I smell a big ole plate of BS.

Japanese plants are flexible, but not flexible enough to produce both engines and vehicles (cars/bikes/trucks/etc) on the same line.

Well the Anna, Ohio Honda engine plant does just that, and the changeover from a car (accord) to a Gold Wing boxer 6, for example, (IIRC) takes under an hour per their claims.

However, as my dealer told me, per his Yamaha rep: NO such problem....deliverys of the new FJR are on schedule for March '06. DFO

Good thing people here ordered the FJR. Since it's not a sport bike, it won't be affected.
