It was just over a year ago that an inattentive driver caused the death of a young K1200S and severe injuries to its rider. The bike has been replaced and the rider continues to make a miraculous recovery.

Today, Saturday morning, Andy had one plate, a wire and several screws removed from his elbows. It can no longer be said that he has a screw loose! Although the operation lasted a little longer than anticipated, there were no complications and all went well. There is still some hardware remaining in each elbow, his wrist and his leg.

He has a bulky dressing on each arm, that will be removed on Tuesday. The pain seems to be under control (he is sleeping right now). Bending his arms isn't happening just yet, but he recovered very fast the last time around, so he should this time too.

On the way home from the surgery center, he compared the feeling in his arms to having ridden about 2000 miles in a day, with the elbows the way they were. Recovery will be at home for the next few days, then see how he feels about going back to work next week.

Ironically, the dirt bike (Yammie 250) that he has waited so long for, arrived last night. It's going to gather dust for a while because a 35" seat height doesn't work for me. :(

That is very good news Jill....but I think technically you can still say he has a screw loose....wives can say whatever they want apparently!

:haha:

Jill, great news about Andy and the continuing saga.

Apparently being "young at heart" is almost as good as being young! (A very good thing for most of us.)

Give my best to Andy!! One of the best dog sitters ever, according to Cygnus!!

Great news Jill, please wish Andy all the best from me & Sue. I am sure with your expert care he will be back to normal in no time. Did the docs save him the hardware? BTW if you can find a way to email that 250 I will run it in for Andy as a special surprise :D

Wish him well from us. You can'r keep a good man down. ;)

That was the first question that our daughter asked - did you get the hardware. (She collects such things, in her job as an embalmer). The doc didn't offer, and with so much going on, we forgot to ask. I don't think Andy cares about it anyway, as long as it's gone.

He had a pretty good night, with the aid of some Vicodin and a glass of Foster's. His arms are bandaged in a partially bent position so he can do some things with them but not others. He had to use a long fork to eat his dinner, and I had to unbutton his shirt later on.

No riding today, but I betcha he'll be back on a bike pretty soon. The collection from the garage is calling out to him.

Fosters.....great medicine :D Good luck to you both.

Great news to hear :clapping: . How was Sedona? or am I off, timing wise?

Thanks. Sedona was awesome. 1800 miles in a week, with all the twisties you could want, in perfect weather. Pour yourself a cold one, and click on ride reports. There's a L-O-N-G story, with photos.

Even with the padded bandages on, Andy was sitting on his new toy, making brrrm-brrrm noises this afternoon. He fired it up, but refrained from putting it in gear. It's going to be a while before he's able to go out to the desert with the new dirt bike.
